To be honest, I think it must be easy. I would imagine in some European countries it'd be harder to not learn English with so much of it around. That makes us native speakers seem so lazy but the truth is that we have to make more of an effort than most. I don't consciously make an effort to learn Thai but it creeps in there as it's all around me. With even a tiny bit of effort I can see how easy it would be to pick up English for a non-native living in Europe.

Sitting there on top of your celulite mountain range looking down on the rest of us. For your information America is two continents. North America is shared between you yanky doodles and Canada. For your information Europe is a continent populated by a people intellectually superior to your trailer trash mc donald slaves. English is actually the native language of the United Kingdom which is situated in Europe explaining the fact that Brits are also European and yes very clever at English. By the way, in the rest of the world we have WORLD atlases giving us an overall veiw of the planet enabling us to grasp the concept that the US is not the be all and end all of everything. Slide down from your fat-mountain and run along to a good book store, there in the corner on the top shelf covered in dust you may just find such an enlightening book. I see from your post that your grasp of English and the way it is constructed leaves a lot to be desired, if you properly understood what was written you would have understood the point being made, but you missed it completely and went on your diatribe. Perhaps a visit to the library would help, or perhaps so home schooling. Oh Phil Are you just trying to make a play for my arse? I mean, you kind of need to get it out of your system right now before the big day.

not just the basic grammar , etc., but the actual nuances of our humor. I noticed that you understand both the dry, almost lifeless British humor, as well as the more vibrant, totally superior American humor. You also understand sarcasm very well. How did you learn English? Do most of your friends speak it to the same skill level as you? Do you ever fee self-concious about it when you speak as opposed to typing? I find all of you fascinating with your skills: rushing07, Hamsterhuey, Istensteak, Jami0Mckay, serious, teacher, CarrieMpls etc. etc. kudos to you guys! . I know Imago has been to Europe and I'm sure he has a world atlas. So I guess he knows what the capital of Scandinavia is and other important facts about Europe.

Along with TV, the telephone, golf, roads, alcohol and ginger hair, I'm fairly sure the english language was invented by a scotsman.
