WORDS Everybody Should Know - BUT DON'T????!?

ok, so my boss and I were talking and she asked me how the hell I could eat vegan when going out.

I gave her a few examples and said, "For example, if I go to a smoothy place, I ask for the smoothies sans yogurt or sherbert."

She had no clue what 'SANS' meant.

Like none wacky

I was stunned.

Do you see shit like this?

Some of my old coworkers used to make fun of my vocabulary, saying they had to figure out what I was saying sometimes out of context. This doesn't happen anymore now that I work with the geeks. lol

lol at times i'm tempted to make up a bunch of words then use them in conversation with normal people. like, when some stranger on the elevator interrupts my peace to let me know what he or she thinks of the day's weather.

that's when i want to reply "true, and if it cheeves up any more we will all be smooped".

i don't of course. but i'm tempted

i've learned that an alarming number of people in the midwest don't know what "schlep" means.

then again, i also learned that people in new york look at you funny if you say you're thirsty for a pop. shrug

I learned about pop when I went away to college in western Pennsylvania. It still sounds dated to me--like something out of Leave It To Beaver.

But my family is West Indian and we have our own version of English so I can't really throw stones.

Coastal residents are snobs. We can't go around saying "pop" like people that live in middle America.

Carrie is a wannabe coast-er.

I had a boss once who didn't know what PRAWNS were. We were talking about a lunch order. I thought everybody knew what they were.

I had to explain: They're giant shrimp.
