confessions -things I've done in the name of prince

At certain times in my younger days, I think my "prince thing" could have been labeled as an obsession. Certainly my friends agreed. Thinking today, I recalled a number of things I've done because of prince:

1- I chose my car insurance agent because his name was David Prince.

2- When I have to buy some random item (key chain, helmet, notebook) and can't seem to decide, I always go with the purple one.

3- I've tried to videotape every single Prince appearance on tv. Being very unorganized, this means I have 100+ video tapes with only 3-4 minutes of actual taping (but I have all the Arsenio appearances, plus David Letterman stuff)

4- If during troubled times a Prince song came on the radio, I would be convinced that wherever I was driving to was the right place to go.

5- When I was 19, I began an obsession with collecting "everything prince had ever done" on LP, CD, and cassette - just to make sure I'd always have a way to listen. (yes, this def shows my age -- and yes, i got me an ipod jam-packed now)

6- I almost always do everything in 7's -- flight numbers, cell phone no, - even my dissertation has 7 chapters.

7- for my 30th birthday, after years of longing, some girlfriends and i drove to eden prairie/minneapolis to see Paisley Park and First Avenue. All I could do was stand outside both places and smile.

I bought white shoes like a-ha AND got my grandma to buy me a sweater like Morten Harket had.

I haven't done any mental prince things, apart from spending $$$

I did not buy a pillow case with Prince's face on it. Thank god. What weirdo would buy a pillowcase with Prince's face on it? Those fans SCARE me. Creepy.

I did, on the other hand, spent insane amounts of money on travel and concert tickets.

I have hurt myself at times to get a good place at the concert. I once elbowed a little imp behind me that kept putting her elbows in my back. I would do it again. Bitch. I bet she bought a pillowcase.

Last August, when I turned 40, I had a Prince-themed Costume birthday party. My guests had to be either a person in Prince's life, a song title, or a theme related to Prince. All my decorations were purple, I had bowls of Tootsie Pops on each table, the walls were covered with posters and pix, and we played Prince and related artists all night. music
It was so much fun, and my friends did a nice job "playing along". boogie

I wish that new TVLand show about turning 40 was advertising then! I could have gone all out and invited the Org community as well, and we could have been on TV! woot!

I use to feel all warm and fuzzy inside on June 7th, Prince's birthday...Now I just say bah-humbug on June 7th. But I do always look to see if Prince is listed on Entertainment Tonights birthday list. loser
