Unless there's some sort of significance(you're in a gang, the armed forces, or a certain culture), why bother with the tats? Just get a sharpie and scribble on your arm or something, and then you can wash it off when you're bored.

My lips are really small, and any metal in that area would look ridiculous.

I had my tongue pierced from '00 to '04. Even if it's out of style these days, I still highly recommend it to those interested.

but again, it probably won't happen for another year or so, and it'll be temporary (which is what i love about piercings..) because i plan to go into teaching - who knows, if i'm doing well enough as a university prof, i'll stick it right back in!

Almost every single person I know that has a labret has had some gum damage on their lower jaw - even with the flat head ones that are supposed to prevent this damage.

Just something to maybe look into before making your final decision on it as, I believe, that damage is permanent.
