What is your favorite style of music? And who do you think are the best artists of that genre?
For me it's alternative/modern rock. I love something from nearly every type of music but this really gets me off. I know it's a catch-all term for anything out of the mainstream, but there's so much good music that can be considered 'alternative'. Here are some of my favorites: Joy Division New Order The Cure The Smiths Morrissey U2 Depeche Mode Eurythmics Tricky Bjork Liz Phair PJ Harvey Nirvana Smashing Pumpkins Pixies Breeders Fugazi The Stone Roses Jane's Addiction Chili Peppers Soundgarden The Strokes

You and I share ALOT in common!
But my one favorite genre has to be REGGAE! Followed by: TRANCE TECHNO and SOUL/NEO-SOUL/R&B(oldskool) -------------------------------------------------

I don't know if I have a favorite...this is sort of complicated for me. But I do like ANYTHING that sounds good, and I don't think any genre I've ever heard is without merit...except for something like thrash/speed metal. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

In that case, who are your favorites from any genre Supernova?

Anything but country (except maybe 2 or 3 artists...dixie chicks, faith and shania) is what I listen too. [This message was edited Tue Oct 22 16:07:46 PDT 2002 by MostBeautifulGrlNTheWorld]

I'm gonna compile a list, Tron, then post it. It won't be definitive or anything, because I like a whole slew of folks and I'm bound to forget. But it'll be pretty wide ranging. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

cool but I don't think the Cure can be considered either synth pop or new wave.

Yes maybe but that isn't representative of what they do at all. It's more of a one-off experiment.

It's good enough to qualify them for "who does it best" though, in my opinion. Even if just a one-off project, what a project it was!

I guess, but you don't really think of them as a synth/new wave band do you? Cuz they're not.

No, they're definitely not. But when they do it, they do it WELL.

Here's a list TRON. Like I said, it's not a definitive list, because, 1) I like so many I'm bound to forget some, and 2) I'd have to go thru my collection. I'm sure I'll think of a lot more tomorrow. These were off the top of my head. If a specific artist or group is in bold it's my favorite AND the one I think is preeminent. The rest are in no particular order, and are too hard to pick who I think is best. Oh, I could have broken down the categories more, but some artists just have a style that encompasses a lot of ground (which is a good thing).
