My alters exist underneath the radar so I can actually post my 2 cents without dealing with the whole "imago posted it" thing. There's alot of baggage with the imago account--people will either be deliberately acidic for no reason, or just jack the shit out of my post or thread.

So posting as Monigram, Mars23, Lammastide or one of my other accounts actually gets serious dialogue going without the need for any drama.

There were times when briefly I had 2 or even 3 accounts, but typically a new account was replacing an old one. Way too often, granted, but it's not like I was hiding it was me. Noodlesoup, GreenTea, nickandmon... if it wasn't just spelled out on the profile it was always transparently obvious.

If an orger made an alter that was banned does their original account get banned as well, or suspended or something? And if they are not banned (or when they come back from a temp ban) are they free to go ahead and have an alter again?

I only ever got banned for 48 hours for likening Tom to Pol Pot, several times, without relent. I guess it wasn't very nice of me. I only feel glad that I was an unquestionably nice person reasonably well liked here or else I may well have been banned for longer as some fractious, no-pic-posting, ugly, unpopular muthafucka might have been for the same offense.

My alters mainly allow me to post without getting jacked. I don't troll other orgers, etc. etc. or try to score pictures, etc.

And certainly don't say things that I wouldn't be brave enough to say as imago. On the contrary, I tend to have to tone down the rhetoric so as not to draw attention to myself using an alter.

I don't care if people think it's shady--I think it just allows me to take a break.
