The Whistleblower Have you ever gone public about your company's business malpractice? Called out a fraud? In essence, have you or someone you know ever been a 'whistlerblower'? What happened as a result? There's Joy In Expatriation.

not public, but I've always been a critic (albeit constructive !!!) from the inside ...
In my first job, I got fired. I'm more of a politician now. I feel like going public now ... but I got lots of responsibilities (marriage, kids, mortgage) that keep me from doing that

Not in public, but:
I once had a colleague who copied other peoples autographs for approval of Aircraft Maintenance documents. After warning him several times I went to the CEO. He lost his position and got set back in rank lucky bastard should have been fired. About a year after I started working for another company, I heard that he was applying for a job at a major Dutch airline. I wrote the Human Resources department of that company a letter explaining what the guy was like. He didn't get hired. People like this are a threat to flight safety. In Holland, they just passed a new law protecting whistleblowers. They can get paid out of a fund when they lose their job. Also, we have a phone number you can call to "Report Crimes Anonymous".

I understand the why and such, but still I can not agree with that. The company that is hiring should have their proper background checks and somewhere I rest assured that they didn't base their judgement on your letter. No offense though, I understand your concern and it is valid ! Wasn't that done under the cover of counter-terrorism, with cases like Pim Fortuyn and Theo Van Gogh in mind ?? Again, I do understand why they think about it but it invades my privacy. A neighbour or a (soon to be ex-)friend could call that line because he does not agree with my beliefs and have me investigated for child abuse or paedophilia (sp?). These days there's too much invasion of ones privacy under the cover of counter-terrorism. One may argue that I shouldn't be worried if I am not doing anything wrong, but I do cuz a lot of these preventive actions are bullshit and CYA Security (Cover Your Ass). One good example is mdiver telling Imago recently that Ben would breeze through Heathrow Security because he has the Queen's papers ... Now you can correct me if I'm wrong, but those guys that blew up busses and underground trains in London also carried those papers. Which basically tells me they wouldn't have gone through the same scrunity as anybody not carrying the queen's papers and that leaves 'the system' useless imho. Don't bother ... it's one of my favorite subjects

No offense though, I understand your concern and it is valid ! It was something I needed to get off my chest. I agree that the company needs to do their homework, but this wouldn't get under their attention if I hadn't told them. Either way, I doubt that it was me that kept them from hiring. I wouldn't know why they started it and I am not aware of any misuse. I don't think that privacy is at stake here though. The police wouldn't start investigations without a proper lead (other than an angry neighbour). In my case I had proof and they told me to write the letter to the airline, so they didn't start any investigation at all. One4All4Ever said: These days there's too much invasion of ones privacy
