Virginia/SouthCarolina/Georgia/Florida Do any fellow orgers live in these areas? For the last maybe three years I've been wanting to move down south. But I am afraid that my family and I won't get use to the life style. We live in the "burbs" but isn't so burbish...Also the culture here varies a lot...Just wondering if any orgers live in these areas and how is it over there...money wise, culture, jobs, etc..
p.s I'm at work and there is nothing to do so I'm sitting here in my office pondering nonsense and fantasizing about moving to guam. | |

If you want to move south, stick to a city closer to the water (with the exception of Atlanta).
For a New Yorker to move to a smaller southern city can be depressing and a cultural shock. My recommendation is find college towns near the water since you're young. Tampa, in my honest opinion, is awesome cause of the multiple colleges (USF being one of them), beaches, nightlife, and amusement parks. Plus most of the people who live here are from elsewhere too, so it's very diverse. | |

But something that would definitely be wild. Meeting new people and a place to grow in. I always had a thing for the south, I spent some time in NC once and Id thought Iw ould shoot myself if I saw another cow. I did live in Puerto rico and it was very country and very farm like and I really did like it...but it was boring. I loved DC but I didn't like the surrounding areas. I also loved VA. I'm going to Florida probably in the upcoming months and I plan on checking it out...I'm kinda tired of the cold weather and there really isn't much going on in ny. I just want something different, but in away I'm afraid it will be too different. | |

LOL Soooo true its funny because my friends tell me I have a really heavy ny/longisland accent combined with a little bit of a spanish accent. So I'll say things like "I DONT HAVE AN AXCENT" or like OMGAD...There are a whole bunch of words my friends tease me about. I try to be all proper and ish but theres one or two words that out me immediately. | |

I grew up near Richmond, Virginia. It rocks. My family still lives there and I'm moving back there for good in May.  So, I love it. You have Richmond which is a cool little city with lots to do, good restaurants, shopping. You're a few hours from the mountains and an hour and a half from the beach. You are also about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Washington DC.
I love it there. Of course, I have never lived in a large city before. Probably the largest city I've lived in is San Antonio, Texas. It's more of a sprawling city at that. Jobs are pretty good there (in Richmond) and definitely in Northern VA near DC. Northern Virginia is very expensive, but maybe you're already used to a high cost of living. The Richmond area is pretty low cost of living compared to other areas of the country. Virginia also has excellent public schools and incredible public universities. Let me know what else you want to know.  | |

and I agree with Dan, if you move south, stick near the coast...beaches, nightlife and overall quality of living is better.... stay away from Savannah...the city is nice enough, lots of history and quite beautiful, but crime is fucking ridiculous...it's been going on for years and has only gotten worse... Charleston, South Carolina is a nice place, alot like Savannah without the excessive crime.... | |

The south is diferent, but get that country stereotype outta your head. I love the South. But I don't think SC would be a good move for you...Unless you'd like to scope out Charleston | |
