I, for one, am sick of reading all the dumb fucking conspiracy theories that people are posting about the terrorist attacks on New York...

Goddamn, are these people just the most amazing detectives since Sherlock fucking Holmes or what?

No. smile

Yes, I am tired of all these groundless conspiracy theories and I think it is ignorant for someone to sit around advancing theories with absolutely no proof of their validity and pretending that they are so cool and acting like a know-at-all dumbass.

I DO agree that the conspiracy theories can get a bit silly biggrin But no flaming individuals please (OK sag10?) - if anyone takes issue with soulpower's points, then please feel free to address them in as courteous, civil and intelligent a manner as soulpower has.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the points he makes, but he has some points that are well expressed and it makes for interesting discussion. I honestly prefer people to discuss his points rather than just say "I'm sick of this guy" or "I'm sick of talking about that". It doesn't create good discussion and is the forum equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and saying "la la la" biggrin

Sometimes cats leave turds in the sandbox... like the stinking loads being left all over the place by certain conspiracy theorists.

I don't mind reading them. I find them quite humorous, as most of them present an extremely childish view of international relations and American politics.

Anyone who actually lives IN the US or went to college studying political science could testify that the US government isn't NEARLY competent enough to pull of ANY of this conspiracy bullshit.

It takes but an elementary level of reasoning abilities to discount all of these theories. Addressing such nonsense isn't taking part in an intelligent, "critical" debate; it's giving attention to pseudo-intellectual tripe that's no better than theories about what particular gas station Elvis now works at, how many times your neighbor Bob has been abducted by aliens, how you can unlock the "secrets" of shit like the Celestine Prophecy, or how many animals Noah rescued.

There is a reason why these theories aren't given any attention by the world's true international relations experts. Because they stink like shit! Open up a copy of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, or any number of quality academic journals. You won't find this bullshit there. You have to buy Globe for that fucking crap.

I am not fond of conspiracy theories, but conspiracies do happen. If we stop asking questions, how will we know about our real history? One only has to think of the aura of Kissinger, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon in their time, and what we know about them now. History has been kind in some aspects, and unkind in others. Now we know various events and facts that were concealed at the time and that cast a different light on some decisions. None of us are old enough to "wish I had known at the time" (correct me if I'm wrong... smile ). I am keeping my eyes open and assessing the information I consume, conspiracy theories included.

Oh snap! Sag got busted! eek woot!

My problem with conspiracy theories and poorly documented accusations is that these are such important issues that we are dealing with! And these groundless charges just muddy the water.

America's role in the world today is one that demands assessment and serious criticism and intelligent voices, instead the left has been reduced to seeing things in terms of black and white: America = Evil.

That's also what drives me nuts about W. by the way.

Where are the serious voices of the left? Or the moderate voices? And don't tell me they have been "silenced." rolleyes I think they really don't know what to say or how to say it.

Conspiracy theories have increased ten fold since the advent of the Internet. That's all I know! eek

People sit in front of their computers concocting theories about everything from UFO's to 911. Most theories are spread through email and dodgy websites etc.

It is the same in Australia.

People are too gutless and scared to speak up against the actions of our government for fear of being seen as non-patriotic or anti-Australian. Over here it stretches as far as all the hysteria over refugees (boat people) who arrive on our shores. The government has got away with treating them like criminals and terrorists.

There is a groundswell of grassroot support for these people but not nearly enough from important leaders of the left.

Where our our leaders? Please stand up!
