If that guy considers playing football to be an art form, he has bigger problems than racism.

I think that the league did pick on him for the equipment violation. If they are going to fine Terrell Owens for having his shirt out during the game then they should fine the other players that do the very same thing, both black and white players. I don't neccessarily think that race is the overall issue, I think the league fined him for the common equipment violation so they can warn him about signing footballs after a touchdown catch during a game.

They do Fine players for this very same thing, ALL THE TIME, They fine players for keeping footballs, for not having their socks pulled up, for wearing bandanas, and on and on. That is a part of the rules. What Terrel Owens did is crap. He is making a spectacle of himself and it is rediculous. Jeff Garcia threw the beautiful pass that he caught. Did Garcia sign a freaking ball? Nope. Terrel Owens is just trying to draw attention to himself. He has, and you watch, the Niners play will suffer because of his actions/comments.

Terrell says that African-Americans end up in the end zone more than the white guys, but which race throws the winning passes to them more? That's if we're going to talk race. But really, race is not the issue here, is it?

Here is what I thought was ridiculous:

"I see my work like Picasso," Owens said. "He signed off on his work. I signed off on my work."

If this guy thinks that running around in tights and throwing a football around with a bunch of other guys is art, he is the most ignorant human on the face of the planet.

Boy, I would love to see the reaction if a white guy said "We (European-Americans) are more intellectual than they (African Americans) are. If you look at who gets all the best coaching jobs, the best corporate jobs, it is us. We consistently achieve better in life than they do. Its no big deal, it is just the way we are.

His statements are just as inapropriate and inflammatory

Getting the best coaching jobs and the best corporate jobs has little to do with intelligence.

Ok...I will bite. In your opinion, what are the criteria for hiring people to top positions? From my experience it is normally intelligence, proven track record and demonstrated ability to help further the team/company's cause.

And you're right. A demonstrated ability to help further the team or company cause, but not always intelligence. I'm in the business field and from my experiences intelligence is not always the criteria, but hard work, desire and determination. And sometimes being buddies with the boss, getting connections and hook ups, politics, etc. I've attended conference meetings and i've talked to the "big whigs" about their success and most of them stated that intelligence has little to do with their success, mainly hard work, determination and desire. I've seen people get management jobs without possessing a College Degree, they got the job because they had a natural managing skill, whereas others had to go to College and learn it. And those managers is no more smarter than me, and i'm not even smart. I personally know 3 brothers that own and run a financial firm, they handle people money in the stock market and give advice and stuff..and they only know basic math. They personally told me that all of them got by on a D average in high school and never went to college. But they very much so have a well demonstrated ability to give stock advice and make people money. In my early experiences in the business field i've seen it over and over that intelligence is not the key factor in getting high corporate positions...I used to think that it was.

Yes...Terrell certainly has been dealt an unfair deck

Really it just comes down to different viewpoints on professionalism, class and not acting like you have cured cancer when you make an open field tackle or score a touchdown.
