If you haven't heard of this movie, it was directed by the Wachowski Brothers (of Matrix trilogy fame). Most of the movie, as is evident from the trailer, was shot on "green screen".

I'm not sure if I'll see it in the theater or not. But I do know that John Goodman has NAILED the look of Pops!!

Christina Ricci!

Is this based on the Speed Racer cartoon of the early 70's? I used to watch that show every Saturday morning as a kid growing up. Used to love it.

I agree. I have all of the o.g. cartoons on vhs. I fucking loved this cartoon when I was little and I think I dig it more now than then. RacerX was off the hook. I HATE when they do movies or remakes of great shit from the 70's. All they do is fuck it up. I'll go see it like an idiot, knowing it's going to be whack. I too wish it was Japanese.

This trailer looks horrible. I grew up watching the cartoon. This looks cluttered.

The melodrama looks like it will sap the film's pacing, and it doesn't stand up well against the cartoon. I think I'll pass....

i want to be hopeful about this. the trailer makes it look like a super-quick-cut trip-toy of a movie/cartoon, like liquid sky meets TRON or something. i'd love it if the wachowski brothers just used this project to give us something pretty and trippy to sit and drool at for a couple of hours. i'd be all for that.

Casting known people often sinks movies because they seem too calclated and fake to an audience.

I like how Spielberg's and Lucas's most well regarded films of the 70's relied on unknown casting to make the movies more engaging and "real".
