I drove past this mall about 20 minutes before this happened. I pass this mall every day on my way to and from work. A father and son (if I remember the details correctly) that were killed were buying Valentines gifts. These mass shootings are horrible. My geography is horribly off cuz I had no idea you were so close to this. Like Cali said, I wish this stupid ass would have just offed himself instead of dragging others into his mania. I'm firmly planted in denial

I wouldn't ask for an apology. I understand your point of view and share it many level. But, what gun control laws would prevent this? The Virginia Tech shooter purchased his guns calmly and went through all the necessary red tape. I think the best anyone could hope for would be to put heavier restictions on semi-automatic weaponry, which would perhaps trim down the damage that these people can do (but the shooting itself would still happen).
Heck, this was done with a rifle. Its mind boggling to think that something like this can happen. Take care!

SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: god forbid you put any checks or balances on the gun industry and how they are manufactured and or sold in this country. People just have this love of their guns and there is no talking sense to them and just so long as we have little to no regulation when it comes to these things, people will just end up dying in these masacres. And they will be dying over the fruit of their own beliefs.
You'll never see legislation as long as the GOP's in bed with the powerful NRA. Funny - when Adolph Giuliani was mayor, he was in favor of gun control. Now that he's running for dictator, the prick has softened his stance in order to win NRA support.

Except for Supa! Well I wasn't wishing people were dead. What I said is true. The same people that these massacres tend to happen to are the same people that chant for guns like a religion. Or at least statistically that is very likely in those parts of the cuntry. I mean what a pussy move to block someone from responding to their orgnote Richard, you live in southern California. What you're saying isn't exactly fair.

Don't you know the constitution? that document is hundreads of years old that reflected the old west, it's not needed today. Compare the murder rates by guns of America that that of countries that ban guns. God given right???....to kill people? It's also every American's God-given right to not notice irony.

I am a resident of Omaha and would like to state that we're not a bunch of gun-toting hicks. I know that a lot of y'all are from overseas and its probably a swipe at America and I'm too sensitive to remarks about Omaha (which is an incredible city BTW). Anyway, something like this is so inexplicable and unimaginable! I can't think of any feasible way to stop this type of random, untargeted violence in America. Stay safe you guys and happy holidays! Thank you. I grew up in Iowa (2 hours north of Omaha--still fly into good ole Epply Airfield when I visit) and not everyone in Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, etc. is a red-neck, gun toting hick. Sure, some people are, () but to generalize like that when Omaha is actually a pretty hip city is not fair. Omaha is a major city for drug distribution to other midwest cities (St. Louis, Des Moines, Chicago, etc) and there is a fair amount of gang activity, right? So maybe the shooter was a "thug" and it was gang/drug related instead of a red-neck. BTW, I am totally being sarcastic with that last comment to prove a point about generalizing. (I doubt gangs use rifles much...) Just b/c someone is from a certain city, or region does not mean they are a certain way. I obviously have no clue who the shooter was, but to assume it's a card-carrying member of the NRA hick is just as offensive as assuming it's gang related because of what I can generalize about Omaha. I wonder if this is the same mall that we used to go to when I was younger---we would make a special day trip to Omaha to do holiday shopping because the mall was so much better than the one in Sioux City. Hope you and those you know are safe and go Huskers! ps. Omaha must be somewhat decent if an Iowan will defend it. (There's a big rivalry b/t western Iowa & eastern Nebraska.) What was the response to the Virginia tech massacre. GUNS GUNS AND GUNS. Do we have crime and gun deaths here where I live? Yes. But many here don't want guns to be completely unregulated. If the criminals are going to get them anyway we shouldn't be allowing them to get these crazy outrageously dangerous weapons legally. I'm not for banning guns and this person wasn't a criminal and that's the point. Someone like this can just go out and get a gun legally if they want one and there are no barriers to the criminality of their mind because there is virtually no regulation as far as thorough background checks or waiting periods or the unavailability of weapons that are more powerful than even the police have. The love of guns in this country is crazy and I wish I could have a moderated stance but just so long as the gun lobby has unfettered control of guns and how they are manufactured and obtained, I will speak my opinion on this. Sorry if it feels harsh to some people but it feels awfully harsh for those of us who want responsibility to be a part of gun culture in this country and it's maddening to see year after year these kinds of incidents happening and the response is even more loosening of gun laws or gun control and a call for even more guns. It's lunacy. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Well it might have been an assumption on my part but you'll have to excuse us big city folk for not really knowin that there is a rational spot over in Nebraska. Bottom line, people in your part of the country that reliably support the Republican party are flip out cases when it comes to guns and they need them like a heroin addict needs his drugs. Bigot. Uh, it's called psychotic for a reason. They've lost all sense of reason, consequence and logic. The boy was teased endlessly at school, had neglectful parents, lost his job and his girlfriend in one week and had depression. When you're that low, you're not thinking straight obviously. I'm not in ANY way justifying what he did, but it's VERY easy to see how it ended up happening and that with a little love and attention it may have been prevented. Parents and caretakers need to stop belittling teens problems, calling them attention seekers etc. That's why shit like this happens, in some sick way they're doing it for the attention they never received and NEEDED.
