When you look back

What periods in your life do you point at and say:

1) I was really crazy doing that.

2) That was probably the smartest thing I'll ever do.

3) How come I didn't know?

1) I was really crazy doing that.

nod My 20's (basically the entire time I was in the Military).
I remember getting in a car with about 200 bucks between me and a good friend of mine, and driving 10 hours south to Key West. Neither of us had credit cards, neither of us had the financial reserves to recover if, say his car broke down on the way there, etc. etc.
I've ended up in so many cities where we literally slept in a car cause we couldn't afford room & board falloff. Places like Paris, Luxemburg, Trier, Frankfurt, Cologne--I mean, expensive places.
I had fun back then, but when I think back, I say to myself, "what the hell were you thinking Dan???!!??". I would NEVER go anywhere with the financial parachute to get out of a bad bind now.

2) That was probably the smartest thing I'll ever do.

Most definately purchasing my house. In Florid you can file for bankruptcy and still keep your house, so even if I get fired, I might be able to swing this.
But even with the current housing slump, prices WILL eventually go back up again. The population is growing rapidly, and people need places to live. It's the only thing I did that has given twice the return on investment in just a few short years.

3) How come I didn't know?

There are so many instances in my life where I look back and ask myself why I didn't see something coming. The biggest one was losing a Unix job to an Airman because my Security pass came in before his. He ended up deploying to Italy, getting awards, and coming back and beating me at making rank. I was very angry about this for a long time. It was the moment I realized that grownups don't REALLY reward people for hard work, but rather they do what's best for themselves.

1. That describes most of 2006 for me. I had a lot of ups and downs and did a lot of crazy shit, both good and bad confused

2. Last November. . . Broke up with my ex, who is probably the most deceitful person that ever entered my life.

3. hmmm

1) I was really crazy doing that. Probably most of my early teen years. I did some bad things.

2) That was probably the smartest thing I'll ever do. Making the choice to go back to school.

3) How come I didn't know? Holy cow...I don't think we all need to bring that back up. But probably the whole "MY EX" situation!

1) I was really crazy doing that. Skipping high school to get high and some of the drugs I did back then. Everything worked itself out though.

2) That was probably the smartest thing I'll ever do. Moving out of my two bedroom apartment into a one bedroom to save money to buy a house. It was one of the few times where I made a plan and gave myself a deadline and actually followed through on it.

3) How come I didn't know? How unattractive it was to beat myself up over things I can't control. Or how annoying it is to bitch about things I can control rather than doing something about it. I sure have wasted a lot of time feeling sorry for myself.

1) I was really crazy doing that. All of my late teens through my 20s. I was a bit of a party girl.

2) That was probably the smartest thing I'll ever do. I really can't think of any one thing that trumps everything else. confused

3) How come I didn't know? I guess I never think in terms of why didn't I know something. I didn't know cause I hadn't experienced whatever it was yet. I guess I don't get the question.
