I HATE running. I did it because my son is making a bad grade in his first class of the day. He says it's because he doesn't concentrate well in the morning. He gets going when things get buzzing. And I have to admit, the grades in his later classes are all very good.
So I suggested he do something in the morning to focus himself. For some unknown reason, I suggested running. I HATE running, have I said that already? I am a weight-lifting fiend and shred on cardio, but I HATE running. Mainly because it's bad for knees and ankles (especially at my advanced age). But there I was this morning, jogging like nobody's business. My only hope is to make it a race against the clock. I'd rather see how fast we can run a mile, than how far we can go before we drop. Actually, I intend to shift this activity to my wife, at least for 2 or 3 mornings a week. SHE likes to run!

I walk a mile in 15 minutes. I didn't OFFICALLY time it - this was just based on observations of the kitchen clock when we left and when we got back. Actual running time might have been 8 or 9 minutes. I used to run this same route a few years back (don't ask me why, I have no idea). I think the best time I got was 7 minutes, and I think the route is actually 1.2 miles or something like that. I think for Christmas, I'm going to give my son an Ironman watch so he can time us.

Hey, I average 9 or 10 minutes a mile. Yeah, but I bet you run LOTS of miles at a time. If you just ran one mile and gave it everything, I'm betting we'd see the second coming of Roger Bannister.

Yeah, mine's an estimate too. When I walk around the lake I walk 4.7 miles and it usually takes me about an hour and 5-15 minutes. |

I am sure in time you will clock up more and the best thing is, to compete against oneself, because only one can win or lose - yourself. So keep up the good work. Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday.

That's good! I walk as much as possible, sometimes 4 miles in one day. I go to the park with my mom; it's great exercise. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Yeah. And by the way, you're getting low on beer. DAYUM!! What's your time? Since I have no choice in the matter (we run everyday, between 2 & 4.5 miles a day) I'm between 6.5-7 minutes per mile....at 40 years old... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

Yesterday was my son's first run with me, and it was MY first run in several years. I work out a lot and do cardio too, so I'm in shape. The run wasn't hard, I just hate running. I think I'm going to give my son an Ironman watch for Christmas so he can time us. And I need to measure the route we ran. I think it's a little over a mile. You're hauling ass. I'm 49 now. If I remember right, the last time I really did any running was when I was 42, and I think I remember being pumped to get my route under 7 minutes. Or maybe it was 8 minutes.

The only problem is getting used to the altitude here in AZ after 15 months of doing cardio at sea-level in Iraq....but I can't let my young troopies out-do me...ol' Sarge has to lead from the front.... Good luck, in any event... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.
