Holiday decorations at the workplace?

Does the company where you work put up holiday decorations?

If so, what kind (non-denominational, all religions, only one religion, etc)?

If so, does the company have a religious affiliation?

How do you (and co-workers) feel about the holiday display (or lack of)?

My company is owned by a Jewish family...so both Chanukah and Christmas decorations are put up...but NO Nativity images.

I work for a Federal organization in the Upper East Side of New York. Today I went into our lobby and it looks like someone barfed Christmas all over the place. There are two Christmas trees (without ornamentation) that are at least 6 feet tall, poinsettias, paperwhites and all sorts of other potted holiday plants all over the lobby. disbelief I was really offended because as a Federal organization there are very strict rules about what types of decoration are allowed and the fact that there are Christmas trees is completely inappropriate, imo. (No sign of a menorah or anything Kwanzaa related.)

I'm also pissed that they spent hundreds of dollars on that shit and our staff holiday party is a fucking pot-luck.

And poinsettia leaves can be semi-toxic if ingested so I don't think it's the best decision to have dozens of those at floor level when we have a lot of families that visit.

If they had a menorah and some Kwanzaa stuff, I'd still think it was inappropriate, because there should be seperation of church & state (eg. no fucking religious shit at a Federal company) but at least each winter holiday would have a representation, which is fairer than just the Christian holiday.

But if they are going to decorate for one holiday, then how come they didn't have a horn of plenty for Thanksgiving or something for Ramadan--and I'm sure they're not going to put up shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day.

I'm afraid to say anything because I'll be labeled as a troublemaker or over-reacting, but I'm seriously offended and pissed off. I hope all the plants die and all the Jewish people in the neighborhood and that work at the place complain.

My work puts up a big tree in the entrance but that's about the only xmas decorations they do. I plan on decorating my own desk with a little tree and fake snow. We have desk decorating contests here.

I work in the Target Corporate Offices (Target Technology Services to be exact) and so far they've put up very large white birch trees with no leaves but little red discs hanging from them in our big atrium. There are usually a couple of Xmas trees in the entrance at some point, I think. That's about it. There are guidelines of how you can and can't decorate your work area, but mostly it pertains to style guides and safety hazards and the same rules are in effect year round.
I believe the stores are a bit different, though. It's a bit more inclusive and representative of different cultural holidays, but Xmas is the biggest, being that's the money maker. And they'll vary a bit from store to store as well, depending on the community that store serves.

My company puts up a christmas tree and other christmas decorations such as bells and holly and stuff like that. We have many, many different religions working here, but we are a Canadian company and we celebrate christmas whether some people like it or not.

I work in a law office, the managing partner is catholic...so we go all out every year. This Friday is the day that is actually set aside after lunch for the employees to help deck the halls with christmas decorations. Greenery down the front bannisters, HUGE tree in the lobby, and more pointsettias than you could imagine. After we finish decorating, he orders in food and turns on christmas music while we eat and enjoy..kinda nice actually, I am looking foward to it. cloud9
