MOTOR SCOOTERS - Your Advice Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

After much soul searching I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to try and push off the next purchase of a CAR as long as I can. In order to do this, I see no other option than to either take public transportation whenever possible, or to find a secondary vehicle that can offset the mileage that is currently being assumed by my 6 year old (100,000 mile) VW beetle.

I know that I want something that gets:

    a) great gas mileage
    b) Gives me enough yearly cost savings that I break even within 2 or 3 years financially
    c) Is convenient.

It's because of this, I've decided to start pursuing the purchase of Motor Scooter - particularly a gas model designed for 'touring'.

I looked in to electric models which are very fuel efficient, but they appear to have very small ranges of travel when compared to their gasoline counterparts, some going no further than 4 miles between charges.

Although I would be using my scooter 90% of the time for ranges of no more than 5 to 10 miles in a pop (the primary usage for my car currently), I will from time to time make longer trips. Therefore I'm looking for:

1) Something that can go 70 Miles per hour
2) Something that runs off of gas
3) Something that has ABS
4) Something that is a bit comfortable.

A model that seems to be what I'm looking for is here: http://evosales.com/pd_moped.cfm
(I can't believe these things are so cheap).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping purchasing one can cut down on my carbon emissions and save me money in fuel as well as extend the life of my car.

Dude, why don't you go all the way and buy a chopper?

Then I can live vicariously through you.

I think you should get a vespa.

I have always wanted a powder pink vespa with a matching helmet. I would look SO CUTE on a powder pink vespa with a matching helmet. It's not practical for this climate, however. confused

That said, you don't have to get a pink one.

They look too urban and too retro.

You have to understand, I already drive a VW Beetle. If I drove a Vespa, I'd seriously need to think surgically removing my baby soft, clean, shaven, leathery smooth balls.

In all seriousness being perceived as feminine doesn't bother me all that much.

But the look of the vehicles is too retro and urban for me. That's not to say they don't look great--they just don't fit the actual local and lifestyle that I have. It would be like living in downtown New York or Chicago, and drivng a pickup truck.

You'd look dashing with one though.

Again, I'm stunned at how inexpensive some of these models are. I seriously think that a motor scooter could help me extend the life and usage of my CAR(s) by least 5 years or so. Or at least I could trade the cars in with alot less mileage and higher resale values. I think it would more than makeup for the purchase of a scooter

I guess I just don't understand trying to make a scooter look like a motorcycle, though. Stylistically, they're ugly to me. If you're gonna be a motorcycle, be a motorcycle. If you're a scooter, be an unapologetic scooter. The pic of the one you have above is unattractive.
Perhaps I need to see more scooters.
I don't really know anything about scooters. lol

lol

It's odd to me cause it doesn't look at all like a motorcycle to me.
But it looks like a gas high-way friend scooter.

I guess I look at them as urban vs. touring and not motorcycle style vs. traditional.

There are models that look almost like motorcycles, but they just end up looking like wimpy motorcycles to me.

Anyways, do you think getting a scooter is a good idea or not?

If it gets you places faster, cheaper and it brings down your carbon footprint, do it.

Oh, I think it's a great idea! Just don't get an ugly one is all I'm saying.

The one above is ugly, did I mention that?
