I know...that struck me as odd too... It's like those guys asking for handouts that hand you a piece of paper explaining that they're deaf and mute...and if you turn your head or look down and ask them a yes or no question...they'll nod yes or no

who the hell carries a piece of paper around from a judge certifying that they're a nice person?!
you did the right thing, that would creep me out. and yeah, it sucks that i live in a world where a certified nice person would make me suspicious, but hey.

Always trust your instincts ... and yes hindsight and deeper thought can usually make it seem like we may have not done the "right" thing for another person

It's the holiday season. Sadly, grifters step up their game during the holidays.
A couple of things about that dude creeped me out. His actions have the sense of a routine: 1) The man strikes up a conversation by complimenting you and appealing to your senses of vanity and duty. 2) He had the note that appears to be creeping out others here. Again, the note, by being from a judge, is designed to appeal to a person's sense of doing what is right. But what normal person would have such a thing? 3) Ted Bundy and other serial killers have been known to appear non-threatening and passive people. And who would ever suspect ill of such a nice, old man? 4) Sometimes, God speaks to us through those feelings of unease we get in situations like that. I totally think you did the right thing.

you did the right thing. and more importantly you trusted yourself. most people wouldn't even have a conversation with a stranger, or even a neighbour. let alone give them a ride.
you are a good person with a heart of gold. LOVE ♪♫♪♫ ♣¤═══¤۩۞۩ஜ۩ஜ۩۞۩¤═══¤♣

I was once at Lido beach and decided go to the quiet end of the beach away from the noise so I could read and reflect. On my way to that part of the beach, through a trail that takes you there, I saw what appeared to be the biggest indigo snake I've ever seen. It slithered very slowly and though I wasn't afraid of it, I certainly didn't want to startle it ad in turn get startled myself. I then looked up and noticed an old man, in decent shape, in tight spandex joggers (which isn't TOO UNUSUAL here in Tampa) and he asked me what I was looking at. I explained and he looked and we both marvelled at it for a moment. He spoke about various birds, manatee and other wildlife you could see near the water a the other side of the inlet. I smiled, talked, and was getting ready to make my way to beach when I noticed he was rubbing his crotch and what appeared to be a sizable penis underneath the fabric. I looked down at it, looked back up at him, and said , "I'm only fascinated by big black snakes, thanks." and walked off pissed. But yeah--what if I had been smaller, weaker, and unable to ward off advances? WTF? I have to edit everything. [Edited 11/22/07 18:25pm] What the hell?!?!?! Carrie, that guy did seem very suspicious.....I think you did the right thing!! surviving on the thought of loving you, it's just like the water
I ain't felt this way in years...

The old saying "It's Better To Be Safe Then Sorry" certainly applies in this situation. You trusted your instincts and that's good. I think the reason you feel bad is because the man was older, But don't let that fool you. He was just as capable of pulling a gun on you and driving to a secluded spot as anyone younger. You did the right thing C.

I don't give rides to strangers.... period. But I've given a ton of money. And I'll offer to call someone on their behalf but rides...? No. It's just not worth it considering the risk...
