In my days of teaching and working with the youth; I have witness the stark contrasts in behavior patterns of the kids who were brought up in single parent households over children from two parent households. Unless the parents of either home are so called "Old School" and don't take any shit, then these kids were supremely disrespectful, do not respond to figures of authority, and do not do well with their male teachers as most come from a single parented home headed up by their mothers.

Who of you are from single parented households like myself? My mom put the fear of GOD in her sons and we had the village taking care of things she could not handle. I got beatings summoned by phonecalls if mom was absent or sick. I thought I could act a fool because she was incapacitated....WRONG!! Uncle came and beat my ass!!

Let's examine the advantages and disadvantages of these two different ways of upbringing. What are you all products of? How do you think it got you where you are?

If we were disrespectful, our butts got whooped. Nowdays, CPS would be called.
I grew up in a small, middle class community, in the midwest. Anything I did, my parents heard about it, before I got home.
After 18, I moved out of town! Who wants live somewhere, everyone knows everything about you?? razz

My ethics are a result of family, and Catholic grade school. Mass, Monday through Friday and Sundays.....during the school year, followed by religion class for an hour.

Which is an added perspective....religion in one's upbringing.

I am a single mom raising a daughter(the father get visitation rights) I assure you NOT ALL are like that. My daughter has gotten many awards for being polite and respectful to others and she is 12 now, she also is a straight A student. She is not in trouble at school either. I am raising her the best I can I think, but yet I also am teaching her to not take crap from other people and speak her mind. I also teach her there are times to say things and when not to as well. But also to respect her elders. There is no violence in our household we prefer to talk things out, violence isnt the way to go only creates problems.

It shouldnt matter what kind of household a child grows up in just as long as you(parents) raise the the best you can.

But I think you need to not stereotype us single parents.

I did not stereotype. I simply stated what "I" have seen in my classrooms and the contrasts in behavior. I never said that one or the other are cemented in their behavior.

Whether you have one or two in the home, some parents are better than others and some shouldn't be parents at all.

that is the truth .. i dont get how some females can just lay up, give birth, and throw their kids away or putting a man before their kids....other ppl gotta raise them .. where is the maturnal instinct?

I agree! I knew one girl who is a mom and she HATES her kids, but she loves being pregnant, yeah confusing to me as well, even tells others that. She definately shouldnt be a parent.

IMHO, your first paragraph cements what you think.

" In my days of teaching and working with the youth; I have witness the stark contrasts in behavior patterns of the kids who were brought up in single parent households over children from two parent households. As for me, my parents were divorced and mom was the one raising me and my brother, I never got into trouble at school either( but always wanted to know what I was like to get into it, instead of being "miss goody 2 shoes" LOL)

nod
I feel the same way.
Though I consider myself to be Agnostic, (and my wife is a closet Agnostic), we have decided to bring Catholicism into our children's lives. Not simply for the pomp, but mostly for those basic virtues that Jesus preached and are taught in Sunday school. When they're old and can make rational decisions, they can decide where to take their faith.
