Eight years ago today: 11/15/99

I might have mentioned this a couple of times to a few people over the past week.

On a serious note, what happened on 11/15/99 changed my life and helped me become the person that I am today.

On that Monday, I had a major procedure done and was in surgery for about four hours.
Those who don't know what Scoliosis is, it's a curvature of the spine. [Wikipedia it for more details]. But basically, its a condition that must be taken care of it the curvature is extreme. A back-brace or surgery is a treatment. My case was more extreme, so surgery had be done to correct it before it got out of hand. What they did was insert 2 permanent titanium rods in my back to straight my vertabrae.

Scary enough, we had only found out about it that summer.

But yeah, the surgery was pretty drastic and the memory still sticks with me. After the prodecure, I was bed-ridden for what felt like the longest week in my life. Being in pain for the first couple of days was no fun.

After my "release", I was tutored from home until school started in the new year. But I dealt with backpain for a couple of weeks after. Not at all pleasant, but eventually, I got used to it.

People ask me about it now. And I hardly feel it anymore, so naturally I forget about the whole experience. Looking back, it wasn't all that bad except for the pain that came with it.

As for how it changed me, let's just say I'm not in as good as shape I used to be. I took five years of karate before I had to quit for the procedure. So my lack of athletic ability stems from that. And that was around the time I started writing too.

Anyway, I just thought I should post this so you guys will know something else about me.

Thanks a lot hug

When I mentioned I was going to write something here, someone in my thread commented that they'd have to avoid me in General Discussion 2.

It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately. No joke, 1999 was a very pivotal year in my life. At least the last couple of montsh were.

Thank u 2 everyone who replied. And I'm thanking God someone didn't post saying that I'm writing this to get sympathy or (no pun intended) for my health. It was just something about me I felt like sharing. I don't talk about it much, but this place has become like home to me with a lot of new friends. I thought some of the people should know this personal thing about me.

I thinks it's fantastic that you were able to get it sorted and get on with your life. I imagine your mobility will improve year on year and the pain of the surgery will soon be a distant memory.
