I sat down with my Grandma, maybe 6 months or so before she died. We were having a conversation, something I had never really done with her before. I know it sounds weird but I just hadn't, well you don't do that kind of stuff as a kid. I'd was at uni and you start to realise that your folks are people too. anyway.....
We were chatting about the stuff she had done and how she had looked after my great uncle who had been really ill and her marriage and my mom (her only child who died when i was a teenager). It was a pretty miserable conversation but fascinating for me to hear. It was quite light hearted though, just chatting about the past with a cup of tea and a biscuit. After a while I asked her if she had enjoyed her life, her reply was very simple, very matter of fact, she just said "No, not really" I would have cried right there if I hadn't been so shocked, it was the saddest few words i had ever heard. The only thing I want to do before I die is say "Yes, I had a fantastic life" when my grandchildren ask me. There is no point making a list, because in some cases it sets you up for a fall. Like Phil, I try to do things I want when I get the urge. I don't need to continuously live life on the edge to feel alive just be a bit more aware of my surrounding and seize any moments that present themselves. Of those things I have done that I will always remember. Ecuador rain forest Aurora Borealis Kauai Sample the underwater world Feel the experience of altitude sickness up a mountain Ski, like you are alone in the world All are nature derived, and all were peaceful, serene and beautiful. In each case I took a photo, in my mind, because I knew they were special at the time. Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

When I was at my Mom's death bed, my Mom just looked so tired, like she had had enough of this life and was ready to rest, she was only 65..but had had a really hard life. Some by fault of her own, some not by her own fault. I pray this does not happen to me.
