Organ Donation

Do any of you Orgers hold a Donor Card? Have you thought about organ donation? Would anyone care to discuss their views on organ donation further?
I was discussing this with a friend today.

"I am all in for organ donation. If something good could come from my death than that is brilliant.
If a child, teenager, elderly person, anyone, could use any organ of mine to make their life better or to save their life then that is a wonderful thing IMO."

What are your views on this?

I am designated an organ donor on my driver's license. But considering I've been an overweight smoker most of my adult life, I'm not sure anyone's gonna want any of mine. lol

After I die, my body is free for the taking. (no no no! Cloudy.) I've got the sticker on my license, and am open to the consideration of donating a kidney to a friend or family member.

I also donate platelets regularly, and can do it during the workday as I work at a blood bank.
Oh shit, my hat done fell off

I was wondering, if your next of kin was opposed to this, where would they stand?

Also considering religious views. Which religions do not believe in donating Organs?

Me too.

I have actually been thinking about this a lot lately. My uncle just recently had his second kidney fail and thank God, they found a donor for him, as he was near death. If I die and my organs can help someone else, I really don't see a problem with them being donated shrug

I imagine they would only give my organs to someone as a joke before putting in ones that don't suck. It'd be like "HEY, THIS LIVER YOU GAVE ME IS CRAP" and then the doctors would be all "lol j/k, here have this one it's made of gold."

24 years later i would love to know if the people who got my sister's kidneys are still alive. did they have rejection? did their quality of life drastically change?

of course in my mind i want them to be alive, happy and healthy.

I am a donor it's on all my cards and I have talked to my family. I made the decision long ago, when I was a kid there was a little boy who I heard about that had a classmate who was sick I think she needed a heart, this was back in the 70's. Any way this kid told his mom how sad he was and that he wished he had another heart so he could share with his friend. Well sometime later he got hit by a car and was brain dead, the mom remembered and donated his heart and lungs to this little girl. The story was publicized and I remember thinking wow I want to do that for someone. I still remember the story because now there is that whole keep the donor a secret thing, and this woman wanted the world to know what her little boy wanted.

Here in Austria everybody is an organ donor unless you state you are not nod. Does anybody know if there's any other country where it's like that? I am curious.

They can use my entire body except my brain, I'd donate a kidney while I'm still alive if somebody I love needed it. I'm unlikely to need both anyways. nod

My next of kin know I want to donate but I'm registered, I used to give blood too but now I won't anymore cos I scar too much from the big needles so I look like a junkie and I simply don't want that - my veins have retracted and it's hard to get enough of a flow but I'd do it for a friend no sweat.
When my spleen was ruptured I was on the verge of needing blood and I found myself not wanting some stranger's blood but fortunately my friend Ola stepped up, we're a match but in the end I didn't need it.

So, beloved Orgers - if you need a spare body part or blood I'm your person. nod
