I used to edit all my pics of other things and so just started doing the same with pics of myself. It's interesting because I'm pretty secure in how I look here, as me, in Thailand, in the flesh when I interact with people day to day. When it comes to the org it changes though. I see a compliment and part of me always thinks 'Sure, though that's not quite how I really look' and I wonder why I do it.

But I never said, photowhore threads were a bad thing, or that I was above them.
I only pointed out a few negative things about them (ugly people being lead to believe their hot, or hot people being rewarded for being hotter than others, etc. etc.). Moreover, the main intention of them was to get an understanding or perspective from other folks as to what drives the photowhore threads.


But yes, the subversive irony was there before I hit "submit" on the original post.

I like this thread. It has me all discombobulated trying to work it all out. I think I've found an answer for me personally though. As much as I can be genuine, put my feelings out there, have real feelings towards orgers, care about them and what they're doing, when it comes to the purely physical presentation of myself I still see this place, being as it is on the internet with the separation and nature of the interaction, as a kind of fantasy world. If I'm pretty secure in my looks but touch up all my photos here it suggests I view it very differently to my interactions with people 'irl'. I'm not vain 'irl', I don't ask people how I look, don't seek validation or care much whether people find me attractive or not, so why would I do it on the org? Because simply I can make myself look better? I do think my obsessive photo editing in general does have something to do with it. I spoiled most of my trip to the UK sitting in the computer room editing all the pics.
