What was your first vehicle you bought for yourself!

Not one that got given to you by a family member, but one on your own damn credit/savings. My first ever car was a Bug. But the first one I ever purchased completely on my own was when I was a senior in High School. I bought a 1995 Ford Taurus off this old man down the street from me. I had saved up 1500 dollars and my pops said whatever I saved in my car fund over 1 year he would match. So I had 3000 dollars to play with. At first I wanted a new car, but then I figured I did not want payments. So I negotiated with old dude who wanted 3,300 for it. I talked him down to 2,600 and said thats all I had. He took it! I was so thrilled. Have you all ever seen that movie Road Trip? My Taurus was an exact replica of that car. I remember I named her Back Street Betty cause she had no get in the engine and it seemed like I always entered the Freeway going 40 MPH and would get beeped at until she gained full speed 1 mile later, so whenever possible I took backstreets to any destination! WHat was your first vehicle you bought for yourself.

1995 Toyota Corolla. I saved all my money from my summer job to buy it. I sold it to my mother when I bought the car that I currently drive.

The first car I ever had was 1997 Jeep Cherokee. Piece of Shit.

Had so much trouble with it.

Now I drive a Toyota minivan which is only out of necessity.

Our other cooler car is an Acura TL with heated leather seats. biggrin

1975 Mercedes Benz 450SL. Piece of junk, but it did give me that "American Gigolo" look I was after.

Oddly enough, it attracted no chicks. None. Of COURSE I blame the car.

A couple years later, I bought a red Jeep CJ-7. Best babe magnet EVER.

1982 Buick Skyhawk. Brand new...midnight blue metallic paint...midnight blue velvet interior. It had a cassette deck in it...on which I played every Prince album from For You through ATWIAD. (I got a new car before Parade came out.)

My best friend called it, "A car Barbie would drive to the beach." It was gorgeous. cool

It was a 1979 silver Honda Accord, one of the best cars I've ever owned. But the best part was I no longer had to drive the family 1973 baby blue Ford Pinto. I think the Pinto even had an 8 track player (after factory).

1977 Ford Granada in 1991. I want to say it was $600 but then I probably dumped that much into it to make it run. I still kind of miss that car. Great back seat smile

the first car I ever bought personally was a 79 volkswagon rabbit, it had a roll back sunroof, no heat ( we took covers and wrapped up in the winter), but dang at the gas mileage that thing would get!!! Plus it didn't have a muffler...lol, so it was loud. It was a stick shift, black, with pink pin stripes ( which I added to it when I bought it)..I bought it for $300.00 when I was working my second job @ Mc Donalds!! LONG time ago...

My grandma paid a LOT for my first car, but I chipped in as well- a silver 1999 Dodge Intrepid. Love it!

The first car I've purchased entirely on my own is my current one:

It was a 1991 Saturn SC coupe. I paid $4,900 in cash for it (this was in 1998). The car was nicely equipped, with almost every option other than an automatic transmission. That was actually a plus, since I prefer a stick shift.

Overall it was a good car, and I put many, many miles on it during the four years I owned it. I think I drove it everywhere from Minnesota to Maine, and also into Canada. The car did have some quirks... 1991 was the first model year for Saturn cars, and there were some bugs that took them a few years to work out... but to me, they were part of the car's personality.

92 Saturn SC was my worst car!! I paid it off in 4 years. I had no trouble with it til I paid it off. I put so much money to fix that car that I think the Saturn dealership was ripping me off. I finally got a Honda (my best car ever and still driving it after 8 years). I sold my Saturn after 7 years of ownership and the engine died on the 2nd owner (after being rebuilt by Saturn for over $1000). I vowed to never buy another American car again.
