One of the most interesting 3:30am typee calls I ever got was from my friend Alex Holdridge who had managed to sneak into the Scanner Darkly premiere after party and called my (from LA) when he found himself a few feet from Prince who was standing talking to Richard Linklater.

"Guess what?.... Prince is standing a few feet away from me. I thought you'd appreciate that."

Last time someone called my house at the wee hours of the morning was 2 years ago and it was my first baby's father:

...it was news that something happend to my brother...He didn't know what happend and still to this day, I'm not sure how he knew but his girlfriend was first cousins with my brother's friend sad I then called my father and my grandmother told me that my brother died! He was in a car accident! I had to keep calm so that I could actually speak and tell my mom...Let's just say, I knew it was going to happen but I didn't know it was going to be that soon. He was only 23 years old with a baby on the way. I handled everything b/c my whole family was too week. Even though I was greiving, I had to stay strong for him and he still visits me now and then. I did catch myself crying and still do from time to time but never let myself fully grieve. I'm his older sister and we looked just a like so I knew that he would've wanted me to handle everything. sad Now, if my phone rings,in the middle of the night, I still get that erie feeling like that dreadful morning...I hate that!

sad hug Sorry to hear about your brother, how awful!!
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

when the phone rings late at night like that I panic. I worry about my husband and then i remember that they don't notify us by phone they come to the door. Then I worry about my daughter who lives away at college. then I worry about my in laws, 93 yo grandmother, etc.. then I can't go back to sleep so I turn on the tv. plus I don't have caller ID so if I don't answer I really don't know who it is that called. neutral

Yeah - try being in Europe dating somebody in Canada. I get my share of them but I don't mind that much - if I mind I tell him to sod off lol I used to have this mofo who claimed he was in love with me call me drunk, or his best friend took his phone and dialed my number to tell me what a great person he is/was pissed We really didn't even know each other, we just used to work the hockey games together. nutso He also called my ex's apartment about 6 months after we'd separated, at 5 in the morning asking him if I was there. rolleyes Then he asked him how things were going with the boat, my ex never had a boat. disbelief So naturally my ex called me to retaliate, that was excellent drama. stab

falloff That has happened to me too, I never called back. I DID get a message from somebody who knew the OTHER Jenny Stridh in Sweden though, he/she thought they'd found my cell number - I texted back "wrong Jenny, I'm not in Gothenburg". I think that made them embarrassed. lol

I got this call once, but not in the middle of the night. It was about 7:00 in the evening.

Seems this dude stiffed a crack dealer, and the dude either has the same name as me or just happened to make up my name. So the crack dealer checks the phone book, sees me in there, and figures I'm the guy.

I got several calls in which they (multiple crack dealers) threatened to kill me. Never mind that the dude who stiffed them was short, young and gay, and I am old, tall and married with children.

It took them hearing the sounds of my crying children to finally understand I was not the guy they were looking for.

My name is not common, and the other day I saw where a guy with the same name as me was playing guitar at a BBQ restaurant. I'm going to pay him a visit and see if it's the same guy. If it is, two things will happen:

1. I will pummell him into the ground; and
2. I will take his guitar and play it far better than he can.

Also, I will take his tip jar.

I guess I've been really lucky that it's never anything serious when I get those late calls. Usually it's one of my crazy girlfriends from the US, who's pissed at her man, the the first sentence out of their mouths is usually something to the effect of:

" GRRRL. I'M ABOUT TO KILL THIS SON OF A BITCH."

and then a hilarious 2 hour gabfest ensues, with me always ending it with,

"Well if you kill a MF, don't CALL ME , because I ain't got no money to get you out of jail" lol

But everything always works itself out and nothing serious ever happens when folks call me that late. Its usually just a venting thing, thank goodness.
