HR/Recruiters - Job Advice, Please!!!

Hello. Currently I work as an administrative assistant for a construction company; I currently hate my job. sad In fact, when I think about it, I've hated it for quite some time. (I've been with the company for 7 1/2 years.)

I would love to do something that’s a bit more creative in nature (writing, editing, marketing, advertising, etc.), but my employment history is comprised of things quite contrary to creativity (clerical, retail, or administrative). I have a 2-year AA degree. Also, I'd really like to get a 4-year degree in something that would help me secure a job within a creative field, but right now I simply cannot afford to go to school.

Friends have suggested the following:

1. Get an administrative job at a university that offers tuition reimbursement, thus, getting paid to basically do what I do now with the bonus of working towards a 4-year degree.

2. Get an administrative job with a creative-based employer (publishing house, advertising firm, etc.) and attempt to work my way into something more creative/enjoyable within the company.

Advice?

Thank you. smile

School is ALWAYS an option: Financial aid / loans. Do it. Life's too short for anything less!

Those are very go suggestions. The key is to get your foot in the door at a company that offers tuition reimbursement or college assistance. Focus on getting on at a company in the field you want to work in and taking one or two courses on your own doesn't hurt either, it shows you're self movtivated and have the drive.
