Anyone have children with migraines? My son (4 1/2) has been experiencing headaches with increasing frequency and intensity. I took him to the doctor b/c I don't want him to be in so much pain and b/c I have had horrible migraines for 12 years. The family dr. referred him to a pediactric neurologist. I am on oodles of meds. for my treatment, but was wondering how they treat children. Anyone with experience in this area?

ok, seriously, my friend Colleen has a son who had them all the time, like weekly.
Then she started using LIMU juice, and swears through her teeth that when she had him start taking it too, that he has only gotten 1 in the last 3 months and it wasn't nearly as severe. This shit is expensive (460 bucks for a 3 month supply), but I've started taking it to see if it does anything for my exzema. I'm told it takes 3 to 4 weeks to see results. It taste pretty groovy though. Makes a great alchohol chaser. http://www.thelimucompany.com/

I suffer from terrible migraines myself, but I didn't have them at such a young age, so I am not really sure about how it is treated. One thing you should do is take him to the optometrist to have his eyes checked. I had to start wearing glasses because I was straining my eyes too much which led to some horrible migraines.

I get them 2 or 3 times a week and many times end up in the ER getting meds through an IV drip. Then that knocks me out for a day or two. My migraines at their best last a day and at their worst 3 or 4 days. I am a grown up and can deal with it. But, to see my son be in pain kills me. I hate that he may be getting them.

I've been getting those wretched kind of headaches for thirty two years, at least twice per week still, beginning at age 5. My daughter, thankfully, at 11, has not inherited this problem.
Sorry, I'm not any help, because the treatments when I was a kid were extremely limited. I just sympathize with you very much. I remember how painful and traumatizing it can be to get those as a young child.

Yeah, they do. I usually throw up from mine too. I only ever had the one "classic" migraine with visual disturbance thank goodness, and only mild ones ever since, but I remember my friend from school was absent nearly every week with 9 hour vomit inducing episodes, AWFUL!

My son doesn't have them, thank God. But my sister suffered from them for a few years, starting when she was about 13 or 14. My mother had her taking all kinds of meds, but I don't know if they really helped her. I think they just went away.
That didn't help much, sorry Smooches;)

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. I appreciate it. I don't care about me, but I just hope my son doesn't have them.

My daughter has suffered with migraines since she was about 10 yrs old. We were always able to manage them with over the counter drugs up until she hit the teen years...then we had to see the Dr..which led to cat scans, and migraine meds. Sadly the meds only made her migraines worse. She will be 21 this coming Monday...and still suffers so badly. Where she can't handle light or sound...she deals with them with otc meds...and a cold wash cloth. She has no choice since migraine meds only made the matter worse. She has also learned what normally triggers her episodes...like she learned the hard way that peanuts cause her migraines.
I am sorry your son is having to deal with these at such a young age. I truly hope you are able to get the help he needs to relieve the pain he is dealing with. Proud Memaw to Seyhan Olivia Christine ,Zoey Cirilo Jaylee & Ellie Abigail Lillian
