OMG!!!

I have some friends in the radio industry who go to the Grammy Awards show every year. They get four tickets every year as members of the Radio Association. They were having breakfast and were talking to each other as to whom they should take this year. They said they wanted to take someone who is really going to enjoy the event, yet not act like a star struck teen… they both said “Thomas!”

I’ve watched the Grammys ever since I was old enough to recognize that I loved music and enjoyed the awards shows. Imagine my reaction when I was told that I am going to be there! They came to my job and told me that I need to take a couple days off at the end of February next year. I said okay, thinking they needed me to sing at one of their showcases (they are in the entertainment business with sound production and sometimes do Expos). He turned to his wife and said – “tell him why”.

She said, “Well you’re going to be at the Grammy Awards show!” I nearly fell on my ass, cuz I’ve seen pictures of them with various celebrities (including a shot of them like two feet from Stevie Wonder!). After I recovered they started telling me about the event.

We walk down the “red” carpet (they said it’s actually green, because Heineken sponsor’s the event) with the celebrities, get seated next to the likes of non-nominees (the nominees are seated on the “floor seating”) but, we’ll be next to all the celebrities that go just to go! We watch the show then the real fun begins!

The After Party: It’s going to be the R.A.’s 50th Anniversary party and all the big names go, because it’s radio. There’s an open bar and an ice sculpture that’s two stories high with a martini type drink dribbling down it. You just put your glass under the stream… aaaah! Another cool thing, you get a gift bag with all the Grammy Award paraphernalia included in it!

They said they’ve already got their rooms reserved two blocks from the event. I asked them how much I owed them for the rooms, they said nothing – I’m their guest!

They said Prince went the last two years! Hopefully he’ll be nominated for Planet Earth and go again this year! I’m so excited!

I just googled the event. It's gonna be at Staples Center with Steven Colbert possibly hosting. Also, it's the GRAMMYS' 50th Anniversary!!! (not the R.A.'s - my bad) So, the show should even be more exciting!
