Aquafina to say it comes from same source as tap water

NEW YORK (AP) — The label on Aquafina water bottles will soon be changed to spell out that the drink comes from the same source as tap water, the brand's owner PepsiCo said Friday.
A group called Corporate Accountability International has been pressuring bottled water sellers to curb what it calls misleading marketing practices.

Aquafina is the single biggest bottled water brand, and its bottles are now labeled "P.W.S." The new labels will spell out "public water source."

"If this helps clarify the fact that the water originates from public sources, then it's a reasonable thing to do," PepsiCo (PEP) spokeswoman Michelle Naughton said Friday.

The corporate accountability group is also pressing for similar concessions from Coca-Cola (KO), which owns the Dasani water brand.

Dasani's website says that Dasani comes from local water supplies and is then filtered.

"We don't believe that consumers are confused about the source of Dasani water," Coca-Cola spokeswoman Diana Garza Ciarlante said. "The label clearly states that it is purified water."

Sales of bottled water has been a growing source of revenue for companies such as PepsiCo, based in Purchase, N.Y., and Atlanta-based Coca-Cola as they lessen their dependence on sales of traditional carbonated sodas, as consumer concern over health issues has weakened demand.

aha, fools.

I knew I couldn't stand the taste of it for some reason, stopped buying it long time ago. But it's all tap water, since tap water comes from somewhere.

try opening any bottled water warm. It's al pretty nasty.

The vast majority of bottled water is tap water, which is not to say that it isn't additionally purified and filtered, but it still comes from the tap.

Hell, where I live, our main water source is fueled by a river, fueled by glacial melt, so technically our tap water IS spring water. So what do you call that stuff?

Anyway, drinking bottled water is incredibly wasteful, when calculating the enormous amount of energy and petroleum products that goes into producing those bottles, not to mention shipping them, not to mention the refrigeration energy in all the stores, it just does not add up to be environmentally sound.

Tap water is generally perfectly fine, but if one absolutely thinks it's no good, you really should just buy a filtration system for your sink, or even a brita jug with filters. They are both a lot cheaper, and farrrr better for the environment.

Well... At least it's not... PEOPLE!!!

I keep hearing that tap is just as good as bottled and that some bottled water becomes "dead" water after a certain about of time.

I have no idea what that means but i saw that on some health show.

I love aquafina water, it seems pure though.

I got into the habit of buying bottled water while I was living in southern Illannoy. The local tap water smelled like meat, and did not taste much better. Not even a Brita could remove all the funk. I usually got the "sam's choice" walmart water tho...I do not see the point in spending mucho $$$ for water.

That explains why I always hated the taste of it.
