I met George and Barbara Bush (at different times). Both very nice people.
Bob and Elizabeth Dole are also very gracious and nice. Lee Atwater was a wild man. Kept a guitar signed by Ron Wood in his office. Smoked Winston Reds -- but only on Friday. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I've heard you allude to it, but never heard the story itself. So spill!

I have mentioned this before, so bare with me if you've read it. I use to be a nanny for Jane Seymour's kids about 18 years ago. She lived here in town (Santa Barbara) back then with her second husband and 2 kids plus step child.
I worked for her just under a year. It was the longest year of my life. She was a major pain in the ass...and her kids took after dear old Mom. Her bratty daughter even went so far as to "fire" me a few times because I asked her to do something. I was recommended to her by a mutual friend, the money was good..but certainly not worth the pain and torture to have to deal with this lady's attitude.

I've been right next to famous people but never spoken to them:
Harry Connick JR (on the set of Hope Floats. I was just visiting with a friend who had a bit part) Robert Rodriguez (school before he was famous) Sandra bullock (sitting on chairs on the set of Hope Floats, she seems really nice) Prince (and while he was on stage, Mani) Zach Braff (is that his name?) Rob Thomas (sat next to him at a barstool for 15 minutes or more in NY) Donovan (SXSW) Woody Harrelson (film festival afterparty) Richard Linklater (We were both at a magazine rack at a grocery store for 20 minutes, and the magazine I had contained his pic and an article)(Rick Link. also has spent an entire night at Prince's LA house just talking about movies last year) I've had a few words with Matt Mcconaughey (at school before he was famous - you can't get more down to earth, friendly, and..... drunk as Matt M.), Henry Thomas (truly weird for me, I was star struck from this one...) Before Wes Anderson was famous, he was friends with one of my oldest friends (Houston, TX), and I still have a videotape of a movie that I never returned form his shelf. He very carefully and neatly has labeled the videotape. The Killers - a film noir that was unavailable at that time. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Most of mine are artists--maybe not that famous outside the artworld, but pretty well known inside.
Yinka Shonibare: so charming & nice. Okwui Enwezor (famous curator): super nice and so interesting/smart Christo & Jeanne-Claude: polite, didn't really chit-chat with them William Kentridge: polite, but not that friendly (even when I told him I was writing my MA on one of his works) Brice Marden: nice, didn't really chat Rosalind Krauss (influential post-modernist art critic & historian): took 2 semesters of classes with her. She's and mean. Milton Glaser (responsible for the I *Heart* New York logo): nice Thom Brown (fashion designer): very nice and friendly Roger Guenvere Smith (sp?): he was in a ton of Spike Lee movies. Smarmy. He did a performance at a museum where I used to work, and hit on pretty much every girl during the course of the week. Eldridge Cleaver: very cool, he autographed my copy of Soul on Ice

Skinnier than what she appears on tv *Neve Campbell and John Cusack- He is VERY tall, but nice. Neve was quiet, but polite There are plenty more, but too many to name. I used to work at Joe Louis Arena, here in Detroit. It's a sports arena and concert venue. I worked in the suites, so I saw and met a lot of celebs Smooches;) [Edited 7/28/07 16:26pm] Eminem was rude to me Really? I never experienced any rudeness from him and I have encountered him several times. Smooches;)

We were not allowed to ask for autographs or pictures, but a coworker did make casual coversation with him on the elevator about 8 mile and he seemed pretty humbled. And he said "Thanks for the support". Maybe he was in a bad mood when you saw him Oh, but he did have his daughter with him that night, so maybe he didn't want to be an asshole in front of her Smooches;)
