Someone sure the fuck loves eating pigs! This one's for you.

HereToRockYourWorld said: Imago said: Yes, I'm cutting back alot this year. The problem is that I'm not a good person, per say Charlotte. I have a guilty conscience but that doesn't mean its strong enough for me to do good all the time. With the limiting of meats and dairy, my eczema is subsiding finally, but I need to swap all the way over. Honestly, I think I'm doing it for vanity moreso than an altruistic endeavor, but I don't know. I'm in a wierd place morally right now. I think that very few of us care enough to "be good people" all day, every day. For me it was just about making a decision, setting out rules for myself, and following them without thinking about it. If I had to decide whether I felt more like steak or compassion every damn day, compassion would frequently lose. I also transitioned my diet pretty gradually, sorta removing one thing at a time, but some people find that harder than going cold turkey (so to speak). Cutting back is good, eh? Cutting back is good. When I read about Veal and the Milk industry it dusturbed me sufficently enoughto cut dairly out...almost 100%. I avoid milk whenever I can, I stopped eating yogurt except for a minor blip after I got back from Europe and started to really miss their yogurt, and I never ate veal anyways. And these are actual "moral" decisions that I made rather than through health concerns, etc. However, I've come to the realization, that i need to be angry, sad, etc. from time to time cause it's the only thing that prevents me from collapsing. But that's irrelevant to this topic For me, I believe in rebirth, so every animal I encounter may have some very important relationship with me in a future life. And honestly, I apply a very vain, human hiearchy to my meat eating. If it's cute, or has a strong relationship with it's mother, I find it much harder to eat than if it's scaly, swims, or looks alien to me. But in the end, all creatures are wired for pleasure and pain, and regardless of what their mental capabilities, pain hurts them in their own unique ways. I mean, we wouldn't want to deny a mentally handicapped person dignity, would we? Even if they don't perceive or understand such concepts quite the same as us? Oh, I'm such a god damned pussy.

From my perspective, that's not the point. The issue isn't "is it ok to eat animals". It's "is it ok to pay somebody to raise them in a way that is incredibly cruel". Factory farms don't exist because people want to eat meat, they exist because people buy the cheapest meat possible while taking NO responsibility for where their money goes. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

No, because the flesh and spirit are separate. However, I believe Einstein was no doubt right when he said conversion of humanity to vegetarianism would be the quickest way to help the planet (to paraphrase). Still like burgers too much though. einsteinedit . [Edited 7/19/07 22:24pm]

No, because the flesh and spirit are separate. Exactly. The flesh/body cavity is a host for the spirit( the soul).

How could that ever be proven?
We can't even prove that humans have a 'soul'. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

This is an honest question:
Do non vegan/vegetarian Americans eat meat EVERY DAY? Some posts here lead me to think so. I eat meat, but never everyday It's so absurd! Don't you eat vegetables, fruit, cereals, legumes...? PS :at least in Spain, fish is NOT meat
