iphone?

does anyone else have one? If so, have you figured out a back door to ringtones? It is driving me crazy having to use factory installed!

Have you tried uploading the Z-disc that comes with the unit?

Hint: you'll need a usb router while the mainframe is rebooting. (Just bypass the factory installed programs.)

I absolutely love it! I haven't had any glitches with mine. The ringtone and lack of java/shockwave support are my only gripes. Nothing like being somewhere and able to look something up quickly, especially phone numbers. Forget dialing 411, just to go the yellowpages type it in, then click the link and the phone dials it for you. Awesome!

Oh yea, the only other complaint is that you can only sync to one computer, and cannot manually manage your music.

Other than that, couldn't ask for a better device!

If I ever get a cellphone...and I suddenly come across a wad of cash...I would definitely get an iPhone.

if you are connected to wifi it is super fast, edge of course is not quite as fast. The price of the phone went down? Damn, they should at least work out the bugs first, LOL. I bought it the day of release. It only added $20 a month to my monthly plan for the internet. That is cheaper than internet plans for pda's.

I heard there's a bug that if you use the internet to dial a number, there are hackers who can hack into your phone.

I think I'll wait for the 3G version. Plus I tend to like their next gen models better anyways. Apple really doesn't sit still flashy updates anyways. lol

Aren't their plans kind of pricey though?

I'll wait till they add the GPS.
I'm not interested in surfing the web with the phone, but the google maps is cool. Though without a GPS it's really useless. you have to tell it whenever you make the turn, that's dumb. sorry, but it is.

You can't get custom ringtones yet.

I wrote this review of the iPhone for my friend (we're considering getting one):

People at work have iPhones - I never noticed, lol.

Ok, so when you first touch it your instant reaction is OMG OMG OMG MUST BUY *APPLEGASM* but cause guys at work have it here, they gave me some time to fiddle, and then the novelty wears off once you've explored every nook and cranny.

Firstly, there's very little you can actually do - in my opinion, all the features (safari, mail, youtube) are pointless and simply just not a good enough experience; principally down to how slow edge is, and also down to the restrictiveness of the iPhone. Mail is, as engadget said, not anything like what it should have been. Just trying to set it up to pick up this guy's gmail was a nightmare - I couldn't do it. I don't like using Safari; zooming in and out of web pages is really inconvenient. So yeah, the web page displays like it should and so looks pretty, but it's nowhere near as convenient as mobile web browsing is normally where they compress the page. The way I look at it is that mobiles do that for a reason, and the reason was proved to me when I used the iPhone.

Secondly, the keyboard IS an issue. It really is nasty except when you've got it horizontally in Safari. Very hard to press the right keys at first, feels very weird pressing a screen, and hard to pick up speed due to how close together the keys are.

Coincidentally, this review came out today on my google reader - it sums up (more brutally) the iPhone's "small annoyance" problems:
http://www.theregister.co...he_iphone/

Don't get me wrong. I fucking love it. I really love it. It's so nice to use, but after extended usage the novelty wears off and it really is just another phone. The camera's also rubbish - I should mention that.

You might not trust my review because it's not what I or you wanted to hear, but I've got to be realistic; it's not worth the money, it's first-generation equipment, it's got problems (keyboard!!!!) and mail and safari (2 big reasons for usage for me) suck.

Discuss when you get back from Cornwall?

I'm trying to be pragmatic. It's a mixture of I'm feeling let down but at the same time I love it. There's no doubt it's the best iPod ever, and it's unbelievably slick, but that keyboard annoyed me so much -- and you have bigger fingers!

no, the plans arent pricey. it is only 20 more a month than what i was already paying. that is the same as you pay for unlimited internet on any data plan.

a few observations..yea, the keyboard isn't the best in the world, but people felt the same way about blackberry's when they first came out too. it is a small device, you can't expect the keyboard to be like that of a regular computer. i personally see no problems with the safari. novelty hasn't worn off for me yet, i still use it almost daily for quick lookups on things. granted, i wouldnt use it for hours of surfing, but it is nice to have for quick accessibility on the go. it suits me perfect because anywhere i go, i always had my ipod on tow, so this is the perfect solution for me, i no longer have to carry to devices to the gym, grocery store, etc.

hackers? that is a joke..what exactly are they going to hack? they would get less information hacking into my phone than they would hacking into my computer...which is much easier to do than hacking into a phone, and most certainly holds a wealth of knowledge over my phone, LOL.

i KNOW there isn't custom ringtones, as pointed out in my initial post..which is why I asked if anyone had found a "back door" yet....there are always back doors, someone just has to find it...i obviously couldn't post that request on the apple boards.... lol

Laugh all you want, until you'll get a huge bill because they've been using your phone without you knowing about it.
It's not a joke, it's a serious problem which was admitted and being worked on right now.

nothing to laugh about...if by some slim chance they happen to use some of my minutes, I am not concerned whatsoever. I have so many rollover minutes...now THAT is something to laugh about. Beasides, to keep my kids in check I log into my account about once a week to check activity...so if there wsa anything unusual, I would know pretty quickly, not a month or two later when the bill finally arrives....AND AT&T has the best customer service out there...if you call and say i was jacked, they would immediately credit you for those calls....

The hack in question dials 919 premium numbers in the background and leaves your phone connected without you knowing.
