9s, how dare you ask soulpower to even THINK that Europe isn't perfect!!! smile

Bush and his administration have steamrolled right through a lot of shit you have to admit. I guess I feel a little safer knowing that a crazy cowboy is in office but wonder if a democratic administration would be acting with such beligerence.

This was a very wrong statement state-secretary Herta Daeubler-Gmelin made. She should have known better. First it was very non-diplomatic and unprofessional. Second, to compare ANYBODY with Hitler is just meaningless... I had a big discussion with my wife about that today. she says Bush has the same evil and ignorant content in his politics as Hitler, and after all, America has killed more innocent civilians than Germany ever did. The only difference, she says, is that Bush lacks the german efficency... lol...
maybe she thinks like that because she's spanish.
Now seriously, I am strongly against comparisms like that. Hitler was a unique devil, and no Osama bin Laden or Saddam Hussein or Richard Nixon or George Bush can compare. I believe when people scream "Nazi" or "Hitler", they disqualify their previous points, even if they were valid. I really dont like shit like that.
I do not think she should be fired for that, because she is doing a good job. but it should be made very damn clear that she has fucked it and she should apologize...

Supa, you are showing me with this meaningless remark that you are no better than our state secretary... and you are showing me that you havent read a single thread that I started. otherwhiles you would have noticed that I happen to be a very critical person, it doesnt matter which country we are talking about. I would invite you to debate german foreign politics, but I doubt you have any background knowledge of value, since you dont even seem to have that talking about your own country.

Another note on this: The european media suspects that George W Bush is so determined to start a war in Iraq because congress elections are coming up. the republican party is not too popular these days, due to economical corruption scandals, recesssion, etc. I too believe that the planned war is supposed to help the republicans to remain the leaders in congress. so before you start dissing the german election politics, maybe you should start considering yours.

It's not just the European media, though of course the networks are nearly silent. As November approaches, there will be more talk of the "convenience" of the war if it drowns all other issues. Of course, such comments might never go far past the NYT or Salon.Com in those servile, sheepish days.

If a leader breaks more UN resolutions in 18 months then all countries of the world in the last 20 years then in my eyes he is a threat to world peace. you dont need to gas 7 million jews in order to be classified as "man with evil intentions".

An unfortunate statement really. Bush isn't half the leader, orator and politician that Hitler was so I'm sure Adolf would be upset by the comparison biggrin

I'm not a big fan of either of them though.
