It's been a month since similar laws took effect here in Iceland, on 1st June to be exact. Being a non-smoker myself I can say that it's refreshing not smelling like an ashtray when you get home from the club or bar. biggrin

But this DOES have some problems. In warmer climates, the solution to have an outdoors area or a space under a roof with open doors to the outside works really well. This solution is used here by clubs and bars lucky enough to have a backyard. But things get problematic when the club doesn't have a backyard or a garden to send the smokers to and has to develop some system so that the smokers don't have to go back in the queue when they go for a smoke. Also it must be said that I wonder how people are gonna react to having to smoke outside in a backyard in the wintertime when it's covered in snow and it's 10 degrees below zero. lol

But that's not really MY problem. The only problem I personally can see is that (at least in some places) instead of smelling cigarettes you smell farts and stinky sweat. I guess that's the downside to having "clean" air. shrug

It's getting tougher in Australia too, thank God! It's honestly baffling to me that it has taken this long to ban smoking indoors.

Or alternatively they will stop and taxes will go down because the NHS does not have to shell out on treating all the shit it causes.

true but the government will lose around 8 billion in taxes if all the smokers stopped

Another Englishman who thinks that England is The UK,well it isnt.
And Scotland has had a No Smoking in public places law since March 2005 and Northern Ireland and Wales.
So it would seem that England was the last country in The UK to implement their law.
I have been a non smoker for a year and a half now,the new law is great.
In 20 years time 18 year olds going into pubs would probably not believe that people used to smoke in pubs..I say thats a good thing. smile
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Ya know, there was nothing I loved better than a smoky treat, but - as someone who does not want to end up with an electronic voicebox, those funky tubes up my nose and/or lung cancer - I gotta say, "'Bout time!" We banned smoking in public places years ago.
