Those aren't cockroaches. They are Palmetto bugs, they are huge and they are ten times as bad as any cockroach. They are practically indestructible. lol

It is really some thing that is hard to explain unless you experience it in person.

Perhaps not. I had plenty of gay friends there, though, and they didn't seem to be derided much.

SLC Punk is a cool film about well, the punk scene in Salt Lake. That former NBA player who just came out played there, too. shrug

1. Miami Beach - been there, done that. Its now overun with rampant commercialism and civic corruption, as well as a very well closeted form of institutional racism. I'll always visit (cause I love the sexiness of it and proximity to the ocean), but unless they tore the place down, it crashed and burned, and they had to rebuild it over from scratch, I'll never live there again. There is hope though; it seems to go thru this 'hot' cycle every couple of decades (Art Deco period, the 40's 50's Eden Roc Rat Pack Era, the Fashion Jet Set boom of the 90's), then KABLAM! Nuthin! let's see if I'd have to revisit my never say never here...

2. Cleveland- have close ties there, but its too economiclly depressed. Also a big city with a small town mentality, though the other side of the pendulum is that many people tend to be wildly creative there. Even so, from my understanding they've cut too much funding from what was once an culture scene to be proud of (world class ballet, great live music appreciation, support of the arts via theatre, visual art, ect). I'm not down with that.

3. I have to think of another... cool

I'm from New Orleans....and the lure of the heritage and ambiance of my home is too great for the fury of a hurricane or flood to weaken....FUCK KATRINA!!! (the hurricane, not anyone who happens to share the name.... smile )

ANYhoo.....my top "I wouldn't live there if it came with a bonus and a BJ" cities are....

1. ANYWHERE IN TEXAS, especially El Paso!! Hot, dusty, and WAYYYY overrated!!

2. Augusta, Maine: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO!!! Went there when I was on the Fort Drum Funeral Detail/Honor Guard....asked the motel clerk where we could go for some laughs.....told us "the kids around here hang out in the Wal-Mart parking lot when downtown closes"....I asked when does downtown close....she replied "'round 8 p.m."..... omfg

3. Yuma Arizona: DAYUM eek ! Its the desert with a few buildings thrown in for shits n giggles.....

The more I think about this, I think I'll just make it easy on myself and say I'd only ever willingly live within, say, an hour of Boston or San Francisco. I'd move to other areas only with some ENORMOUS incentive like a once-in-a-lifetime job or something.lol My nevers remain Detroit, Buffalo and anywhere in Texas.

We should be fair. I hear Austin is tolerable. Maybe I'll visit -- briefly -- one day. smile

I agree...cuz I've driven through that bad boy a few times....THAT IS HELL!!! Between El Paso and San Antonio.....NOTHING!!! I drove thru TX alone on my way to Arizona from school in Georgia and I truly honed my "talking to myself" skills....

...of course, other motorists thought I was nuts

OMG, I've had drives like that. Where I needed to stay away cause I get really drowsy and shit on long boring drives, so I either sing my ass off, or I have long, very detailed, conversations with myself--basically I lecture myself for being a bad person and stuff (it's sooooo Norman Bates and His mother), or I practice Positive affirmation --sooooo Stuart Smalley. shrug

It IS sad, isn't it? Cleveland reminds me of an up-and-coming starlet with a major drug problem. lol Always poised on success and with soooo much potential, but just doomed to wallow in nothingness and ultimate self defeat.
