I know this show has been around for some years now but I haven't seen any thing like this (in terms of quality) for over a decade.
Wonderfully profound in 1 minute and filled with profanity the next.
I love this show. All the characters are more or less solid and certainly incomplete without the others.

I love the potrayal of the two main relationships: Nate & Brenda and Keith & David.

Claire though gets on my nerves throughout the entire series. I suppose she's quite stereotypical of american teeny girls. I dunno.

Ruth is a dreadful eye-sore but at least she has interesting lovers from time to time.

Was it a big hit at any time? And r there any more recent shows that can hold a candle to it?

I've never been much of a 1 for TV.

Any1 have an opinion they'd like 2 share?

I loved the first season, but kind of figured out it was a soap opera style drama and bored of it by season two.


I should really buy the DVDs and give it another go.

One of the most realistic portrayals of a gay couple without being sterotypical and allowing that to simply be another characteristic of certain characters without it overshadowing the show.

Not to mention deeply thought-provoking and tantalizingly quirky.



I absolutely adore this series. I really should watch it all again.

Think of all the small role charcters too, would you say it's an accurate portrayal of american society, or society in LA?

The first season was good, then it got tedious and I didn't care much for it, but stuck with it. If I happen to catch the first episode of a show, for some reason I keep watching it whether I like it or not (Melrose Place ).

The last few episodes of the series, though, were fantastic. The last 5-10 minutes of the final episode is among the best things I've ever seen on television. I was stoned and alone at home, so I blubbered like an idiot. And I never cry in movies unless it's "Old Yeller" or "Where the Red Fern Grows."

Absolutely adored that show... About the only wrong turn I thought it ever took was David's kidnapping arc. Loved Ruth to death.

I really hated that Nate was so monotone from beginning to end, though. He's the only character that never truly grew during the show, imo.

It was one of my all time favorite shows/series ever. The very last show of the series was the best ending I have ever seen. Quality actors/actresses and great writers.
I really miss the show.

I used to watch this show all the time but the last two seasons lost me. Perhaps I'll rent the final two seasons on DVD just to watch them and see what happens.

I loved claire's character on the show, especially when se was a teenager. Se was just so acid about everything and reminded me a great deal of myself at that age, although I never was into recreational drugs like she was.

I find the Sopranos to have a similar qualities to Six Feet Under, especially as far as the everyday family life stuff is concerned.

I don't know if I can say that the Sopranos is as good as Six Feet Under in all aspects of the show. There are times when I find the Sopranos to be a bit boring but when it comes to that family aspect both Six Feet Under and the Sopranos have it down perfectly.

I found it to be too self-consciously quirky.

I prefer my soaps to be soapy, so for me, Brothers & Sisters is far superior.

But I see what you mean about it being more of an admitted soap opera, where 6 Feet Under kind of pretended it wasn't.

The couple of mis-steps for me on 6 Feet Under were the attack on David (which seemed pointless and went on way too long. They even abandoned the structure of the show, which normally went back & forth from story to story, and completely focused on torturing David) and the revelation about Lisa/Nate's Sherlock Holmes routine.

The DVD box set looks really nice:

Part of the DVD appeal for me is the sound aspect. I enjoy watching films in surround sound in my living room even though I've seen them already. If all I had was a simple stereo TV or worse a computer, then I wouldn't be into buying DVDs that much.

I was watching the all-star stripper movie Dancing At The Blue Iguana in 5.1 surround sound and with a movie like that, the main appeal obviously is the famous actresses taking it off. There's one scene where a stripper is doing her routine to Echo And The Bunnymen's "Lips Like Sugar" and the song was remixed for surround sound! I was so amazed to hear the song in that format, I totally forgot about the bare breasts on the screen.

That's the power of a good entertainment system. It can make you forget about breasts.
