College - GD - Peeps - ?

Okay all our incredible college peeps smile

I have some questions

Joshua ( he is 18 ) will be starting college in about 1 month - staying on campus biggrin

His older siblings are getting him a laptop woot!

SO ...

I am wondering what other things do you see as being a "needed" item ?

Thanx rose

if he's gonna be sharing a bedroom with someone, a laptop lock might be a good idea. nod

1) How to Read Literature Like a Professor - Thomas C Foster

2) Saddy, An .mp3 player. Now this is tricky, cause Ideally you want an mp3 player you can record audio on (can't do that on an iPod without 3rd party stuff). Also, alot of schools are offering their lectures as podcasts now, so it helps the student out alot.

3) If he goes to a college that uses APA format for their papers, get a piece of software called "APA Perla". If MLM, he can google MLM software. It helps out a great deal in keeping your term papers in the correct approved format.

Oh wait.
If he gets a Mac, APA Perla is no good. IT's a windows plugin for MS Word. And doesn't work with Mac's version of Microsoft Office.

iPod or a Creative Zen.

There's other really cool ones out there, but third party support will be shoddy.

APA was started as a standard for psychology/socialogy/medical, but it has since moved to overall academia. lol

I started off with MLA, then went to APA. They're almost identical.

True. The term paper format you use would vary according to the course one is taking associated with their major.
