When my niece was about to be born, my mother was supposed to spend a month with my brother and his wife to help them out. So she figured it's best to stop smoking. After more than 40 years of non-stop smoking, she quit. Just like that. She used patches, but it was mostly will power.
2 1/2 years later she still doesn't smoke.
