How to give up smoking?

Have any of you tried to give up smoking? Has it worked for you?

I try so hard to reduce my smoking, but the more i try, the more i smoke, and it is no fun anymore sad

I was never a heavy smoker, but I found those last 4-5 a day really difficult. If I was denied these few smokes, I wanted to put my fist through a wall with very little provocation.

I was able to quit with a perscription. There is Chantrix now, but I used Zyban. Zyban is exactly the same as Welbutrin, a mild anti-depressant. Welbutrin comes in a generic, though, so get your doctor to prescribe Welbutrin if not Chantrix.

The Welbutrin will play with your mood for about a week, then it'll level out and you won't notice it any difference at all. Except that quitting smoking will be way easy. The thought of having a cigarette made me sick.

See your doctor.

Good advice, thanks! My only fear is that i might lose weigth, and hence my self reflextion, as they say in sociological terms, might deterioate, and that is exactly what i feel i cant handle these days.

its a technique which people often adopt to ween themselves off of addicyive substances, such as heroin and, in your case, cigerettes

Its a very simple procedure. next time u fancy a smoke, help yourself to a slice of cold turkey instead. you'll be off the cancer sticks in no time.

I don't smoke anything anymore, but I used to smoke lots of pot, and I used it to quit cigarettes once.

But when I quit pot, I went back to cigarettes.

Those things confused me lately. I was reasearching on methadonic things, i.e. substitute for some heavy drugs for a project and i just couldnt find my way in, nor my way out. I dropped it.

I quit not so long ago.

My advice is simply: be a tough guy for three weeks, freak out, be impossible, people will try to break you, cry and scream but be proud and don't touch 1 single smoke!

After 3 weeks re-evaluate the issue and decide your next step.

No substitutes,
Mention it, but no talking about it.
All people are capable of amazing things, but nothing comes without a price.
Don't entertain childish thoughts such as not being as strong as others.
Do it for yourself.

This is how I did it. It was difficult at times.

All the best 2 u
small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

I have never smoked, so take this for what it's worth, but I think volunteering at a cancer hospital - where you will watch people die from smoking - would go a long way towards helping one quit.

And yes, I have volunteered at a cancer hospital.

One of the best things one can do, IMHO. I wish I did it more often.
