TONY IS NOT DEAD, sorry.
read interviews with Chase about how the show would end and he said he'd never send Tony to jail nor would he be killed. And i'm sorry, but that ending was just to ambiguous to say that Tony is dead,

John Doe Well, i've seen posted on other boards, that maybe it was the viewer who got whacked. if Tony were to get whacked we would've saw it coming, we did see it coming for everyone else, didn't we? the family is not to be touched.....Tony was shot in the head in front of his family.....Tony's dead, away with Carmela's denial, away with Meadow's denial, even deeper depression for AJ.....

But no one knows for sure. I think the ending was just rather cowardly on Chase's part. Yes everyone is talking bout the finale and different theories are all over the place Buzz was achieved. If Tony was or wasn't going to get whacked it should have played out instead of going to Black. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

'you don't hear it coming.....' Yes I'm aware of the conversation that took place on the boat. Once again though everything is theory. I've watched too many soap operas and other series in my life to firmly believe in the "No Body, Not Dead" theory. I got this from another website.....
David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail. The guy [sitting at the counter who went into the men's room] is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident. The trucker [in the booth] was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in the train store when Bobby was shot and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?). So, there were three people in the restaurant who had reason to kill Tony and then it just ends.

we don't know who came in the front door of the restaurant..coulda been a hit man, not meadow..or who any of the other diners were Tony will have to rebuild his organization, so..the more things change the more they stay the same

Enjoy. I'm going to watch it again tonight to look for these people from Tony's past. Now, I've went from "WTF was that shit to...wow, how brilliant." As if I'm gonna recognize these random individuals from previous episodes (until now that is) and not know what's going on in that scene. That's a pretty arrogant assumption (as a writer) but then you wouldn't be getting the free press today if everyone understood what had just happened. Like the writing in this show (as good or better than most film scripts) it's just a brilliantly played hand. Throw in alt endings on the dvd and watch those sell in minutes, I need to be around more people this intelligent. Is it you Abeirman?

i don't even know WHAT THE FUCK to say about last night. my mouth fell wide open when the screen went black. I just knew it was coming right back on or something.
it was great how Phil got whacked though I was highly pleased with that outcome. still wish that it was Chrissy and not Paulie who would have toughed it out til the end with Tony. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Ugh. The ending was a shocking one. I'm thinkin' "ok, that dude @ the bar is going to smoke Ton'." He doesn't. Then the Black dudes come in. I'm thinkin' "oook. They're taking the method of having others who aren't necessarily directly connected to do their dirty work." Then they just go on about their biz. I pretty much was on the edge of my bed the entire time, expecting someone to smoke Tony. It was like...I knew the inevitable was soon to happen. Then comes that Meadow scene. I'm rolling my eyes but also thinking "ok...maybe the way this is going down is by fate. Something is taking her time up so she won't see Tony get hit." But what about Carm and AJ? (I was looking @ the clock too, btw. I assumed that the extra minutes in the show would hold some significance.) Then comes that blackout scene. I freaked. After having suffered at the hands of Comcast screwing with my Internet AND cable for three days, I assumed they were starting over. I literally whined at the top of my lungs "C'MON COMCAST!! FUCK!!" and was pressing all sorts of buttons on my remote. Then the credits rolled. I suddenly became a wee bit dissappointed, but confused. The short seconds of black screen, the lack of music in the credits...was this a teaser for the movie, something that was supposed to be left up to the imagination of the viewer, or was this a symbolic way of saying Tony was dead after having a few nice moments with the fam? (that ended in tragedy..)
I personally feel cheated. I've been watching this show since it aired. I missed about a season or two because of the cable switch here in Chicago. But I bought my dad the last season's dvd and got caught up. I felt cheated. Sure, symbolism and teasers are great...but come on!! The way this thing was all hyped up got ME hyped up into thinking it was all going to come to a dramatic close. I really expected more and totally disagree with that one set of people on the Soprano's forum that said it was good. It was not. Not to me, anyway. It's really up in the air for me if he is dead or not. I personally feel that despite what whomever may have set out to happen, Ton' and the fam just had a nice dinner and life went on. Fate strangely smiled upon him and allowed him to live.

I thought this was more to demonstrate the paranoia of Tony more than the notion of suddenly EVERYONE WITH A REASON shows up at the same time to whack. Thats the problem I had with the finale. Tony is always going to have to be watching his back, that theme has been played through out the series so to end it on that note is just well disappointing. Tony getting shot, which is the obvious and favorite bet from the boards, would show what finally happens to someone in the mob and such a flawed character. My issue is that Chase should have after 8 LONG seasons brought closure to the faithful fans who for the last 2 seasons had to wait months for a new episode, keep on top of when the season starts for half a run, and then continue some months later. Fans deserve better treatment. Though I know a couple who got totally off on the ending, but overall its just bad storytelling. If you want life goes on fine, if you want violence begets violence fine. but end the story. Personally it reeks of a cop out, that if chase wants to visit his little NJ town again he can and make a movie bout it.
