I recently met Guy Maddin, the Canadian film director (Saddest Song in the World, Dracula:Pages of a Virgin's Diary, etc), and I think I shook his hand. He even said my name sounded familiar, as I exchanged a couple emails with him last year. He's famous in my world. shrug

Maddin's got a new film out now that looks interesting. Wasn't keen on Saddest Song..., but I loved the Dracula ballet!

Brand on the Brain!!! evillol I loved the ballet too. I actually prefer his short films...he's made a bunch and still makes them, even as short as 5 minutes. I went to a screening of his shorts last year and it was GREAT. I told him I was kind of a fan and he said, "Aren't you sweet?" biggrin

I live in Santa Barbara, Ca. We get alot of celebs out here tryin' to escape L.A. I have not touched them, because frankly I am not interested in touching them. But here are a few I have seen walking along our streets, beaches etc. and of course, tons of celebs live in "montecito" a swanky very expensive area here.

Mariah Carey was on the beach outside her hotel "The Bacara"
Gwen Stefani w/ Hubby and child on the beach (a couple months back)
Jessica and Nick (when they were together)
Rob Lowe (lives here, and can be seen often at a cafe in montecito)
Oprah and Gayle eating lunch with a group in montecito
Dr. Laura, takes walks with her husband downtown s.b. all the time
Allan Thicke lives here and is can be found walking around at our "farmers market"
That comedian with the last name "Miller" he used to have a night talk show, and was a comentator of the NFL for awhile, he is always walking downtown, I stood next to him at Barnes and Noble, but had no reason to touch him.
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt had a house in montecito, and would always be found in the local cafe's
Andy Garcia filmed a b-rated movie in the building that I work in about 10 years ago, damn he was gorgeous!!
kinda boring after awhile, they come here to "escape" I don't want to bug.

Dennis Miller!! that's his name. he needed a shave bad!

oh, wait, i forgot. this thread is yet another perfect opportunity to pull out one of my favorite little chestnuts from the past...only, it's not so much about me touching a celeb as much as it is about a celeb touching ME:

when i was living in new york, one night i was really drunk and doing a bar crawl with a friend in the middle of the night, and who do we see down the block but DIAMANDA GALAS walking with two gay boy pals.

in my drunkenness, i scream "I LOVE YOU DIAMANDA!"

and she trots right up to me, grabs me by the jaw, and plants a big ol' kiss on my lips.

then, just as plain as day, she asked if i saw her show earlier that night. fortunately for my physical well-being, i did, so i stuttered "uh...UH HUH!"

and she smiled and said "it was really good energy tonight, wasn't it?" then turned around and trotted her scary-fabulous self back to her friends.

LOVE. HER. bow

He seemed like a really sweet guy. He's something of a celebrity in these parts, though he's really more famous just for being famous - few people have actually seen any of his films. I'd only seen one at the time I was introduced (twilight of the ice nymphs), but I'm now pretty familiar with his feature-length stuff.

I know someone who works in that Hotel, so she was calling all her friends and letting us know Mariah and her "entourage" were sunning on the beach..it is an exclusive beach, blocked off only for hotel guests, but it is not enforced very well, you can walk through the lobby and a few corridors..and there she be.
