Do you think Kobe will be traded for Garnett? What are other Kobe trade possibilities? Maybe you should change the title of your thread, as it stands now ('Kobe traded for Kevin Garnett') I thought it actually happened ! However, if that trade did somehow happen, the Lakers would get the better of the deal. "Always blessings, never losses......"

I think Garnett for Kobe would be an even trade. I'm not a kobe fan but I respect his game. What about Greg Oden or For Kobe? Kobe for Kevin Durant?

No way, any team would be real foolish to trade either Oden or Durant for Kobe. Don't get me wrong, Kobe has big time talent (arguably the best in the league), but he also has a bad attitude and out of control ego which is like a cancer on the roster. Look what he did in LA, they had won three titles in a row, but he had to get his way and off went Shaq and Coach Jackson (who eventually came back) and the Lakers have not been the same since. Now he is insisting on a trade. Kobe is too much like T.O. (Terrel Owens), he has all the talent in the world, but if he is on your roster he is like a cancer that eats away your team from the inside (just look at the 49ers, Eagles and now Cowboys). He could make a real sudden impact for the Suns, Nets, Mavs, or The Bulls. You know Mark Cuban is going to pursue Kobe Big Time!

It may take a year or two, but you simply can't take a chance on passing on a talent like that. Championships are more often than not built around a dominate presence in the middle, like Oden probably will be. Look what happened to the Lakers, they had to choose between Kobe and Shaq, they let Shaq go and the Lakers have yet to return to the finals while Shaq won another title in Miami. Again the dominate presence in the middle. Also Oden is young (19), Kobe is getting up there (Kobe has played 9,000 more minutes in his career than Jordan did at this point). Oden should be dominant for the next decade or so while Kobe is probably close to starting his decline. Same with Durant, he is young and should be good long after Kobe has left the league. Kobe, if he puts his ego and pride aside could help many teams, but you take that chance that he will be a cancer and ruin your team. Also, you have to figure in what a team will have to give up for Kobe. "Always blessings, never losses......"

You make some interesting points, however, consider that there is no guarantee that Oden and Durant's games will translate to superstardom in the NBA. They are both incredibly talented, but they played one year against college ballplayers and most of the best college aged players are already in the NBA. So who was their competition? In Kobe you have someone who many feel is the most talented player in the league and he is JUST NOW entering what are usually considered his prime years. I think that you will see many more 50+ scoring games from Kobe in the future. Will Durant ever have one? After his freshman year it seem that he might be capable, but without having played one minute in the league it is hard to say. Anyway, I think that it would difficult for Portland to turn down a deal that would land them Kobe for the #1 pick. By the way, I am NOT a huge Kobe fan, but he can ball.

That was my point. At least Kobe has proved himself. Oden and Durant haven't. But it makes interesting conversation when you think trading Kobe for one of these two. I think Oden is going to be the next Shaq in my opinon, but that my be 5 or 6 years down the road. If a team wants to win now they better choose Kobe.

Oh definitely there is no guarantee at all that either Oden or Durant will be successful in the NBA, none what-so-ever. There have been plenty of "can't miss" busts. But there is no guarantee either that Kobe won't get hurt (or Oden or Durant either) or under perform or destroy a team from the inside out. And there is much more to Basketball than scoring 50 points a game (I may be mistaken but I don't remember Duncan scoring 50 points in a game and he has how many championships??). Kobe scored plenty of 50 point games this year and they did not even win their division or get out of the first round of the playoffs. There is also rebounding, passing, physicality, attitude, etc....other intangibles that greatly effect the game that are not necessarily reflected in the box score. Kobe is proven, but I have a gut feeling that especially Oden is going to be a superstar in the NBA that if done right, multiple championships can be won if a team is built correctly around him. The salaries need to be within 75% of each other and with the rookie salary cap you would need to include many more players on Portland's side. I believe Kobe is scheduled to make around $23,000,000 next year. "Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut." Ernest Hemingway
