So my audio is phucking up big time, skipping and stuff, and I remember fixing it once by like uninstalling a driver and then enabling it again but I forgot what exactly what I did...can anyone help?

That's down to one of three things:

Your soundcard
Your soundcard drivers
The app you're using to listen to music.

If it's from a CD, the CD drive could be fucked, or your CD could be scratched.

So in Device Manager, I think it's under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, would my soundcard driver be in Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel, or Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller. I know I uninstalled and re-enabled one of those last time, but I don't remember which.

If not, try getting some new drivers for it (the latest - if they are the latest and you updated and the problem started, go back to the old ones because it's probably the driver's fault).
Otherwise, a good old reboot of the computer may help - sometimes weird shit goes down in computer-land.

Hey I was just going by what worked last time! And I think this is part of some bigger problem because rebooting doesn't fix it and boot up takes like 10 minutes now when it used to take like 2, including loading all the start up stuff. And did I mention the computer was laggy? Keep every file you want on your other hard drive (the one windows isn't installed on).

If you run firefox, you can get all your favourites etc back by doing the following:

Run > %APPDATA%

Add "Mozilla" to a zip archive and put that archive on your other hard drive.

After reinstall, unzip and put the folder back into %APPDATA%.

Other things to help speeding stuff up include downloading all the drivers you'll need; i.e. Video card, Ethernet (if you're on broadband) and Sound.

Also download all the apps you use.

It really helps if you store them all too in case you wipe in the future. I can now wipe and be back up to exactly what I was in just under an hour.

From the Start Menu, right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. Click on the Hardware tab then click on the Device Manager button. Scroll down till you see "Sound Video And Game Controllers". Hit the "+" sign to expand the list. Your sound card should be listed here. If there is a yellow exclamation point next to it, you'll know you definitely have an issue with your drivers. Jot down the name of your sound card and try visting the manufacturers web site to download the latest drivers. Alternately, you might want to try running Windows Update, and see what it recommends for optional updates - your sound card driver might be listed there as well.

Or maybe some codecs on your computer got corrupted or are missing...

Try visiting www.codecguide.com and downloading and installing the K-Lite Codec Pack. One thing to note, when installing this, by default it will install Windows Media Player Classic. You might want to un-check this option. Also, during the installation, it gives you an option to select your speaker setup (for example if you have 5:1 speakers). All the other options I would leave as is.

Or perhaps another device on your computer is causing interference...

Go to the Control Panel and select Sounds & Audio Devices. From the Volume tab click on the Advanced button. Try muting some of the items (other than the main Volume Control and Wave) to see if the issue stops.

If you're noticing the sound problems such as hissing and noise when you are listening to your headphones when they are plugged into your computer, it could be due to it being a cheap sound card. Cheaper sound cards are more prone to interference from other devices within your computer. A cheap fix (as opposed to replacing your sound card) would be to pick up one of those USB headphone jacks. It's a little adapter that converts one of your USB ports into a headphone jack, which will give you crystal clear sound versus using your sound card's built in headphone jack.
