This is why I am a coach!

I am speaking at a meeting full of important big wigs this Monday. Normally I don't care for these kinds of events, but I am proudly doing one this week for one fact and one fact only. I have been coaching for 3 years. The percentage of kids that go on to college after graduation from the high school that I coach at is a meesily 14%! In the past 3 years you know how many of the kids have gone on to college from my football program! 93%! I think this is do to the fact that I do weekly grade checks and have a one hour study hall before practice. I also have one of the staff members at the school that assembles an awesome tutoring program for the kids, but one thing I am proud of is the fact that we're not just hitting our opponents hard, but we're hitting the books hard too! 93% going to college. Now I have a player starting at USC and another at Colorado, but my proudest accomplishment is a 98% graduation rate and 93% going on to college. Sorry about the length I just feel so blessed.

That's so great! I remember when I was in high school the teachers and staff always seemed like they never cared.

I had a football coach as a teacher for one of my classes in high school and he never cared about our class. He would make us read our text book all class long and answer questions. The only time he lectured was when his boss would come in to watch him for the entire period. The rest of the time he would sit in his desk trying to figure out his plays, I always thought that was pretty bad

i had an anatomy teacher that was the same. nod he spent virtually every class watching tapes of the school's football games, and then when he got fired half-way through the year his replacement tried to cram a year's worth of teaching into 4 1/2 months. it was awful disbelief

I had a coach/teacher like that. He would always talk to us about his personal problems and the types of cake he liked and what he thought of people asking him who he voted for and so on! I was like "I don't care!" but I think I just said it loud enough for my friend next to me to hear, and I remember being a freshman in a class of mostly seniors and juniors when I was in the health class with them and the cutest football player was there in that class too!
So the coach was like "DO YOU THINK THAT'S FUNNY?!" eek when my friend was giggling about something. Then everyone stared at us and I felt so bad and he turned to look at me and I was like "No..." boxed
I think the coach just yelled at my friend for looking as if not paying attention.
But yeah I did not learn anything in that health class.

Im sure there is many out there that are the same way. Thats why I thik these kids are very privilaged to have a person like Chris who not only cares about his team but also keeps up with how these kids are doing in their classes. He is truly an admirable person. smile
