Lammastide said: SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: OK, lammykins. For us laypeople can you please explain what the hell your name means? You've heard this schpiel before Lammas is the Christianized Old Gaelic harvest festival of Lughnassadh, held around Aug. 1. Lammastide is simply the season around that festival. It traditionally was a time for the last big summer bashes and a looking forward to autumn's more quiet, introspective time. I picked the name because I'm a sucker for most things esoteric, Irish, etc. Also the festival heralds my favorite time of year -- the cusp of summer and fall. Lastly, I'm not a NeoPagan, but I think there's something enriching about taking time to appreciate what the earth gives up for us and to observe seasonal cycles of birth, maturation, death, resurrection in nature as reflective of our own lives. I think I'm at a sort of personal "Lammastide." The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

have we veered completely off topic yet? i only read the first post.
an online persona can give one confidence that one may not ordinarily have, be it a fear or hang up of crowds or personal interaction or whatever. some folks are better able to communicate through the written word. you can get more out and say it your way, if you have talent. conversely, there are those who are born people-people, feel me? and so messageboards are no nevermind to them. but if you are of the former rather than the latter, and this medium gives you confidence in the real world (because let's face it, that's what it's all about - you can't live on a screen), then good on you, hone it and own it.

Yes I do I chose the name, 'cause I didn't think it was important what kind of name I had. But now I very often think "whatever" when I read posts/threads here on the org. To many people seem to fuss about so many things in life that are to no importance to me at all. I'm more interested in the people, not so much their talk So I feel it fits perfectly to me. Plus I'm female, I think the Eva part in my name is a perfect way to emphasize that

I don't have a persona. I guess I'm "louder" here, because what is there to do but string words together in this context? But I don't have this sense of my org self being a character. I feel some nostalgia over the 'tackam' thing. I used that as a handle in multiple contexts for a long time. To me, that's almost a character, just because it's who I used to be. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

i think of my "anxiety" to be like how john waters described divine's "divinity" - out of drag, divine was just some guy named glenn who had his mood swings and his quiet moments, but sometimes he'd get inspired and his "divinity" would show through. i can relate to that. i'm not always "on", but when i am, i guess that's when i'm at my "anxiest".

I think I'm a bit more exaggerated and more free to say whatever here on the org. But in real life you'll probably see a much nicer and cooler person. One would think that they'd have me figured out here in orgland. But you'll definitely see that you'd be misunderstood when you actually meet me.
But seriously, I really do love New Wave Music.

'Do you identify with your org persona?'
Pretty much. Although right now I'd relate more to using Galthelion as my screen name (my Lord of the Rings Online character).

I'm the same online as I am in person. Rude, crude, horny, bitchy and drunk. Yea, I'm pretty much the same as I am on here. But I'm shy, so I have to know a person a bit before I'll really open up & talk as much shit . [Edited 5/16/07 15:39pm] I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! I'm me, Jen is Teacher and vice versa. I've evolved (or according to at least one person, DEvolved) during my years here and so I'm not the way I used to be, mainly I've calmed the fuck down and did some growing up as well. I used to flirt a helluva lot in the chat and shit like that, now anything resembling that bores me to tears, just as being in Org drama does, I just turn off the puter and go to bed or whatever when that happens.
But yes, I look in the mirror and see Teacher.
