I have my own gym in my house. I prefer it: it's more intimate and cheaper

I recently started working, I go to a nearby track and do a mile there, then I go to the gym and do 2-3 miles on the eliptical and then go home and do some arm exercises. I started doing situps but I think I am so out of shape that my stomach muscles couldnt take it they felt like they were twisting, OUCH so I am doing them little by little. I am trying to make this a habit I have never stuck to exercising, they say it takes a month to make it a habit well see Im at week 4. Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

There's different ways to work the abs. You can use the big exercise ball in the small of your back and do sit-ups. You can take a mat and use a bench to put your legs up on. Take a 5# ball and do sit-ups that way. Even worse, use the arm slings on the nautilus and do leg lifts. That's a real pain. [Edited 5/6/07 8:31am]

i would LOVE that but i know how i do - i'd get distracted by some book or i'd decide i want to make someone a comp cd first, or i'd be all "what's going on at the org?" and by the time i'd be ready to work out it'd be 2am and i'd be full of diet coke and cookies. i need to get out of the house OR ELSE.

Well, it happened to me during the first weeks, but somehow I found the solution: I convinced myself that I had to do it as a routine, or even as a job: now I do my exercises every night, usually from 22:00 to 23:00, then I just take a shower before going to the bed . I truly think that the only solution is doing it as an everyday routine, never as a random thing. I was difficult during the first weeks, but now I truly enjoy it: I really hate gyms now:-x

If you use the bigger ball to begin with you'll have more stability. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Other than a stretch of months where I power-walked the local lake (& saw very little results ) I've never worked out consistently either, I'm on my first stretch of what I pray to GOD is my routine for life. I don't know how many weeks it's been but I know it's over 4 & I'm not flaking out so far. Seeing results, food is going well (unless I succumb to Snickerdoodle cookies today ), so I'm hoping my habit is truly established . [Edited 5/6/07 15:58pm]

In the last year or so I've really tried to shift my attitude about this stuff, from "there's this thing I SHOULD do X number of times per week" to "this is my life and I want to be healthy and enjoy it". I know that being active is good for my physical and mental health, but sometimes I have a couple of weeks where I feel kind of drained, and I don't push myself. And sometimes I have a few days where all I really want to eat is (fill in the blank. . .have been on a yam kick lately), and whatever. Fine. Then it doesn't feel like a chore to go back to doing the optimum thing when I feel like it.
It's serving me well. I do things that I actually enjoy (I do some walking nearly every day, hike most weekends, kayak a couple of times per month, and do weight training kind of on/off. . . regularly for a few weeks, and then it stops sounding like fun for a couple of weeks, and then I go back to it. . . ) and I eat a diet that is very healthy most days. . .I recently had my blood pressure and cholesterol checked and they are better than ever, and I've been having fewer back and headaches. . . it's nice. I seem to be in a talkative mood today. Blah blah blah. . . oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

yams...
yeah, i go back and forth with my passion for the gym, too...i'll get on a kick where i go all the time, and then i'll get sick or work will get too draining and i'll have to take a gym vacation, and it's a major pain in the ass to get back to where i was when i was all about the gym, all the time. eventually i get there, but not without a fight! one thing that's helped me has been taking my gym duffel to work. now, my gym is only two blocks away from my apartment, so you'd think i could just drop by my pad after work, change my clothes, and zip over to the gym. not that easy. when i get home, my apartment sucks me in and the next thing i know it's 7pm and i've been piddlefarting all night and my day is shot. now, i just go directly to the gym after work and it's helped me go a lot more frequently. i got four visits in last week!

Four visits qualifies you as a legitimately active human being! I'm even lazier. I paid to rent a locker at the school gym. Which is IN BETWEEN the building where my classes are and my apartment. It does help a lot on those days when I'm fine with the idea of working out but not fine with any associated hassle. This time of year I just find myself naturally wanting to move a lot more. In the middle of the winter I was finding it very easy to do nothing. Now it's annoying to stay indoors too much. Come next February my ass will be permaplanted into my couch cushions again. Ah well. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

I used to do situps on a big inflatable ball, but I quit one day after I had a little accident. I rolled too far back, and caught my long hair underneath it! I started struggling, and managed to pull out some hair before tumbling onto the floor. I haven't really had a desire to get back on the thing since. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com
