Woman Charged With Domestic Battery

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- A Naperville woman was accused of stabbing her ex-husband after he refused to stop eating the food from her dinner plate, police said.

Delores Wells, 48, was led out of her home in handcuffs and put into the backseat of a police squad car just before 6 p.m. Friday, the Naperville Sun reported. She was formally charged with two counts of domestic battery Saturday by the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

The incident, which police describe as alcohol-related, occurred at 5:30 p.m. in the single-story house at 1416 N. Eagle St. on the city's north side.


Police Sgt. John Burghardt said Friday evening at the scene that officers were called after Wells allegedly used a steak knife to stab her former husband in the upper right arm.

The ex-husband, described as being in his mid-50s, suffered a minor slash wound, police said. He was treated outside the house by Naperville Fire Department paramedics and declined to be taken to a hospital.

Burghardt said witnesses told police the woman stabbed her former husband during dinner: "He was eating off her plate, and she didn't like it."

Four police cars, an ambulance and a fire engine company were sent to the scene.

A man and a woman identified as the suspect's son and daughter milled about outside the home along with the ex-husband and two other people, the Sun reported. The daughter and the former husband exchanged harsh words at one point.

Wells was held overnight Friday at the Naperville police station detention facility and released Saturday after posting 10 percent of her $5,000 bond to make bail. She is scheduled to appear in court June 1.

She didn't stab him for eating from her plate, she stabbed him for all the reasons that he's her ex right now - the plate thing just unleashed the flood that's been boiling in her for a while now
