batting eyes Hello friend

as long as i don't have to stay in the US while married giggle

that's enough money to go to europe! woot!

It's actually better to get married in a different country.
Since Americans are suspicious, if you get married to a foreigner, they check your story out, ask you questions and do surprise visits. But if you come back to the States already married, they don't ask too many questions.

I'd have to think about it but I doubt it. I know a few people who have entered into marriages of convenience for various reasons... they all ended badly. If I may ask why Canada?

Because it's similar to the US, but there's much less crime, and easier to immigrate to.
People are friendly, kind and respectful. I like it.

I can respect that not to mention it's the home of Crown Royal biggrin which makes it #1A in my book. (that's my drink of choice)

hmmm

maybe. it'd depend on the circumstances, of course, and i wouldn't stay married to them.

ok, I'll give you my story as an example:

I'm trying to move out of my country. The only way I could live somewhere else, is to get married to a person in that country. It takes years to get a citizenship, but after that, you are able to get a divorce.

No, I wouldn't want a marriage and divorce to be part of my history--even if it was fake. Maybe it's a Catholic thing. shrug

Well, with the current administration in office, I don't think you'd be able to help him out anyway. lol

Ariel, you're already in Canada. There's no need to marry me now. Besides, I'm in Florida--we don't even let gays pee sitting down here.

These kind of marriages have happened a few times in my family and they all ended in divorce. They even tried to get me to marry someone who needed documentation to be here in the USA, offered me money and all and I said "HELL NO" that would be just to weird.

to me marriage of convenience is marrying someone who is good for you to offer security (he's the perfect guy, he doesn't have any baby mama drama, he has a job, anything he wants he can pay for himself, he can dress, he showers everyday, no beer belly, reliable car, he has his own home, his family loves you) but you don't love him.

like picking a guy with you mind instead of your heart.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

My wife married me because I had a Visa and MasterCard.
But I don't complain.
Whether it's emotional, mentally, physically or spiritually,
a consistent piece of ass is always gonna cost ya, one way or another.
And besides,
it's these kinds of realizations (or what Oprah likes to call "light-bulb moments") that make me feel I'm walking thru life with a sense empowerment.

No.

Perhaps I am a foolish romanticist, but to me a marriage is not a frivolity up for negotiation or barter. Should I ever get married, my earnestness in regards to the institution will be one of the few truly pure gifts I have to bring; I would never want to do anything to sully that, or demean the meaning of such a bond.

Well, marriage of convenience is supposed to be just for paperwork, not to really have a relationship.

It's one of two ways for me to stay in Canada. The other way is sooooo expensive and still isn't %100 guarantee.

Skanks don't get money for sex. They usually are just looking for booze for that night.

No to all of the above. The marriage would end in divorce as the two people are not compatible anyways nor is it for love and is basically not a long term marriage. It's deceitful.

After awhile the two people would get a divorce and go their separate ways after documents are obtained just to stay in a country.

Well that's what the marriage is all about. Of course it would end in a divorce. That should be part of the deal from the beginning.
Most of the people who answered, sounded like they skipped the "convenience" part of the phrase. It's supposed to be for documents only, not any other kind of relationship. Just like business. Once the deal is done, and everybody got what they wanted from the deal, the two sides part ways.

if i was much younger i would consider it for someone i cared about smile it's not a lighthearted decision as you have to make some sort of "relationship" work between the two of you. and like evenstar said... cash in hand for that trip cool

it wouldn't be a cakewalk that's for sure. but i loved the movie green card mushy

No way! One of the teachers at my high school married a girl so she could live in the US. A while after she moved here, the government came a'knockin, to make sure that their marriage was legit. Well, they don't even live together, and she's off doing her own thing. The last I heard, she was in serious danger of getting deported. The moral of this story is, if you are willing to do this to help a friend, make sure you can stage a real marriage at a moment's notice!
