I Can't Wait for The NFL Draft!

Tommorow will be my own personal heaven, I am going to be watching the NFL Draft. Nobody better call me because I'm gonna be seeing who my Broncos pick and seeing if all my predictions in the first 2 rounds are accurate. What Oscar Night is to Gay Men is What the NFL draft is for Straigh Men, a national holiday!
Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

Curious to see what the Lions are gonna do with that second pick...

There is no way they take ANOTHER WR this year...but, Calvin Johnson will
probably be the best player available...hmm

They need Quinn, but #2 may be too high...maybe they'll trade down.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

My Bears have the 31st pick in the first round of the draft, so I don't plan on watching much of this at all. Unless they trade Lance Briggs for a high draft pick, I really don't have much interest in who they pick as long as they pick a solid offensive lineman. Besides, the real meat of the draft happens from the 3rd to 6th rounds, where people you probably haven't heard of suddenly blow up into huge stars in the NFL for their effective role playing. Tom Brady was a 6th round pick who suddenly became this generation's Joe Montana, and Marcus Colston was a 7th round pick last year who challenged for Rookie of the Year but lost out to Vince Young.

Actually, this is the year the Lions should pick a WR(and they just grabbed Calvin Johnson). Johnson & Roy Williams are a nice combo.

And with the sixth pick, the Redskins take LaRon Landry. I guess that will work.

I haven't been paying much attention to the draft, but I do know that Sidney Rice from the Gamecocks went to the Vikings. sad The draft is so fucking long, I really don't see how anyone can watch the entire thing. lol I have to see how well the Panthers did in the draft. I heard they booed Ted Ginn. Damn lol

New York Giants Draft(so far):

1) CB Aaron Ross(Texas)

2) WR Steve Smith(USC)

3) DT Jay Alford(Penn St.)

4) LB Zak DeOssie(Brown)

5) TE Kevin Boss(Western Ore.)

Looking good. We definitely needed help in the secondary, and Ross gives us that.

I'm happy about my Raiders picking up Jamarcus Russell (they'd have been daft to pass him up, and I might have disowned them.... almost). And, I like that Todd Heap-like TE they picked up, too. Sounds like he'll come in handy on the short pass. Will we miss Moss, though? hmmm

Seahawks' second-day draft class includes unique stories, potential starters

By CLARE FARNSWORTH
P-I REPORTER

KIRKLAND -- The Seahawks began the second day of the NFL draft by selecting a defensive end whose father is the mayor of Saratoga, Fla., and a guard whose family fled Liberia.

Before it ended, they also had added the son of Oregon basketball coach Ernie Kent.

These out-of-the-norm distinctions belong to Miami's Baraka Atkins, Georgia Tech's Mansfield Wrotto and Oregon wide receiver Jordan Kent.

But even more importantly, the Seahawks' two fourth-round draft choices continued a trend that was started with the selections of Maryland cornerback Josh Wilson and California's defensive tackle Brandon Mebane on Saturday.

"We're proud of this group, and we are excited about what they potentially can do," club president Tim Ruskell said. "The one thing that we are proud of is that the guys we got in the third, fourth and fifth round, usually they say, 'Well they are going to be special teams contributors and maybe a backup that will contribute.

"I think to a man in those picks, we feel like those guys are all potential starters."

That's saying something for a team that entered the two-day selection process without a first-round draft choice, and then made bigger news with the one player they got rid of -- leading receiver Darrell Jackson -- than any of those they drafted.

It was all by design, and circumstance.

Because the Seahawks were not forced to look for a player that had to come in and start immediately, they could stay true to their "best available athlete" philosophy rather than being tempted to reach to fill a need.

That's why they waited until after the draft to acquire a younger tight end -- Oregon State's Joe Newton. That's why offensive coordinator Gil Haskell not only signed off on, but was excited about, the team using four of its first five picks on defensive players.

"The draft fell very good for us," Haskell said, after being kidded about eventually locking defensive coordinator John Marshall in a closet so he could get offensive players with the final three picks.

"We didn't reach at all, we took players that we had on the board that we really liked," he added.

It is unlikely that any of the team's eight draft choices will be in the starting lineup when the Seahawks open the regular season Sept. 9 at Qwest Field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But it is not out of the question that Wilson, Mebane and Atkins could make plays to help the Seahawks win that game -- Wilson returning kickoffs, if not as the nickel back on defense; and Mebane and Atkins as part of the rotation on the defensive line.

That's what this draft was all about for the Seahawks: Finding players who could contribute as role players while developing into potential starters.

It didn't hurt that some came with interesting stories, as well:

Atkins got his unique first name from father, Fredd, who also happens to be the mayor of their hometown.

Does son have to call father "your honor"?

"No, I'm still allowed to call him Daddy," Atkins said.

Wrotto came to this country in 1991, when he was six. But not before making his way to Australia, and London, and New Jersey, and eventually Atlanta.

"There were some civil issues going on -- military conflicts," Wrotto said of his family's departure from Liberia. "We basically fled."

Kent did not begin playing football until 2005, because he was a basketball player and ran track for the Ducks. But his upside was just too tempting for the Seahawks, who sent area scout Mike Phair to Eugene last week to see Kent because a toe injury prevented him from working out any earlier.

"My favorite pick in the draft was Jordan Kent, because he is different," Haskell said. "Now, he has not played football very much. This is why you take a guy down there."

Subsequent chapters in their already unique stories could include winning starting berths with the Seahawks.

"Whether they get to that point, we'll see," Ruskell said. "But that was what made us most excited about those guys that we picked up."

THE EXTRA ELEVEN

These undrafted players -- including Huskies C.J. Wallace and Kenny James -- are expected to sign with the Seahawks as free agents:

Pos. Name School

SS C.J. Wallace Washington

RB Kenny James Washington

TE Joe Newton Oregon State

WR Joe Fernandez Fresno State

FS Patrick Ghee Wake Forest

LB Cameron Jensen BYU

C Nick Jones Georgia

DB Tim Mixon California

WR Logan Payne Minnesota

P Kyle Stringer Boise State

DE Nu'u Tafisi California
