NITS NITS NITS - NUTS

AND yet again my daughter comes home with nits - never a week goes by without her bring home these unwelcome guests.

Apparently it is the same kids in her class who have the nits all the time and the parents do nothing about it and the teachers can't say or do anything! I'm governor of my school and even I can't say anything but bring it to the attention of the teachers. I have now instructed that a poster be put up at the school drawing parents attention to the problem and asking them to inspect their children's hair every day and treat it accordingly.

I do not know how parents can just let their kids have their hair infested for weeks on end. IT MAKES ME MAD!!!! mad

why is nothing done? If kids have nits or lice, they aren't allowed back to school here until they can prove they are free of them. Are you in the US?

No Britain. If you mention it or point out the children it is regarded as assault!! Some letters have been sent to the parents but to not avail so we have to put up with it. mad

Can't you have at your school a day in which all children are inspected for nits or lice by nurses and then have official medical letters sent to the parents?
I really like spicy food. I mostly put Jalapenos on a lot of my food.

No-one is allowed to inspect the children because this would be classed as assault, There are no nit nurses now and so the little buggers are running rife through the schools.

Too many goody twoshoes running around at the moment and its like living in a nanny state can't do this for that and hurting people's sensitivities. Well what about my sensitivities then? I don't like nits running about in my hair or my childrens. hmm

I remember we had a nit nurse at school and she wore these big rubber gloves and would yank a piece of hair in her fingers and inspect your scalp,. but she had a terrible twitch too, so she was pulling and tugging hair during every spasm, twitch she had,,it was agony lol

At our school we have a weekly inspection for nits, when nits are found a nit alert goes out to all parents in that particular class.
And the parents of the child are warned. If it is really bad the kid is send home until it is nit free.
Parents are also advised on how to recognise them and get rid of them.
www.dehaarsite.nl/.../hoo...dluis.html Unfortunately this site is in dutch but you can recognise the nits from this.

Loads of us use bugbags thumbs up!

Try not to wash your child's hair to often, if things are as bad as you say try to use baby oil in your child's hair for a while.

eek That sounds horrible, we have mothers that volunteer to be the nit inspectors for a while, they can tackle a whole classroom in 10 minutes, it happens in the classroom with teacher present.

this is silly. inspecting a child's head for lice is assult? surely it's a matter for public health and that kids who have them should be sent home. my friend went through a couple of episodes... it's a lot of work to get rid of them only to be reinfected from someone who doesn't give a damn! mad

i don't remember it being a problem for our country school but we certainly got the talk every fall about no sharing combs, hair elastics or hats...

whateva what is that bugbag? for kids jackets in the cloakroom?

I agree, this is such a big problem but there we go - people who think they know better would disagree and we have to suffer. I would dearly love to give nits to the stupid hairbrained MP who decided that the nit nurse had to go and teachers could not go through the children's hair because of hurting sensibilities!

does being governor at your child's school allow you to push for lice information packs to be sent home with every kid?
one suggestion i read was that in addition to sending a bunch of information about how to deal with lice home with every kid was to make it kind of a whole school activity (done at home though) to do nit patrol.

say in the notice that since the school is having problems, make every monday night nit patrol and send reminders home. that way if it's not singling anyone out and effectively trying to stop the infestation from continuing.
they called it "bug busting" and could be made into a kind of lighthearted campaign. surely if parents are alerted to the problem and are given the information they need they will deal with it? confused

Yes, the lice can't crawl from one jacket to another, it realy works as long as enough people use it.
