Melanie Brown names baby after Murphy
Former Spice Girl's daughter is Angel Iris Murphy Brown

NEW YORK // Melanie Brown has given her baby daughter the surname of ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy, the former Spice Girl said in a statement Tuesday.

Brown, 31, gave birth to Angel Iris Murphy Brown on April 3 in Santa Monica, Calif. She listed Murphy's name on the birth certificate.





She said the name was inspired by a number of things.

"Angel, as she was my little angel through my pregnancy. Iris, as it's my grandma's name, Murphy because he's the dad, and Brown, because I'm the Mum!" the statement said.

Murphy, 46, has said he's not sure he's the father.

Brown, known as Scary Spice when she was in the megahit group of the '90s, has an 8-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi.

Murphy, whose screen credits include "Dreamgirls," has five children from his marriage to Nicole Mitchell Murphy.

Did she prove that he was the father? Cause hes not interested is he?

Thats such a shame, shes just doing that to get back at him. Poor kids gonna grow up with the name of a father who doesnt care, just cause her Ma wanted to put his nose out of joint

I just heard on the radio that the baby looks like him..


I think Eddie will step up AFTER its proven.

Eddie should be ashamed. Why not get a DNA test first, before you start denying the baby?

So because a father wants to be a deadbeat, the kid should basically be denied a connection (even if just by name) to the father?

She is cute and on a magazine cover already.

I thought he had denied she was his, and denied the whole thing ever happened. Only saw on E today that that wasnt the case!
